And they're thanks to R. Couri Hay, the publicist/writer who was in the thick of it all back then and who has lived to pass on his photos (and memories) about it.

Couri has written a novel about NYC's golden years called Secret Lives, recalling a time of less self-consciousness, more fun, and even more booze.

Here are the intoxicating images from the era.

That's our Liza! Dressed for Excess!

As for Warhol, MM's declaration does take in a lot of territory, but I agree.

"the definer of the century, Andy Warhol", now that's quite a claim.

Diana Vreeland drank! And Halston too! I'm crushed. Meanwhile, Grace Jones--who you'd expect to have a drink--doesn't.

He was one of the proverbial "great beauties of his day".  He's had a fascinating life, most famously as a photographer.  He was big on the scene in the 70's and was married to model Cheryl Tiegs.  Can't add a link here, but if you Google "peter beard 50 years of portraits," check out the cover portrait...that's him in his youth looking almost otherworldly gorgeous.
