Everyone else is.

Fandango reports that two weeks before the sci-fi epic opens, it's topping their chart of advance tickets sold.

And how can it lose?

The girl from Winter's Bone

The director of Seabiscuit.

Some reality-show-type antics and fun violence.

All based on young-adult books a la Twilight.

And a plot that goes like so:

"Set in a future where the Capitol selects a boy and girl from the twelve districts to fight to the death on live television, Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her younger sister's place for the latest match."

I was gonna say that I have no interest whatsoever in mass phenomena like this one--besides, I wasn't invited--but now that I see it's about Katniss Everdeen, I can't possibly miss this thing!

I've never missed a Katniss Everdeen sci-fi epic in my life!

I am a raging nerd and sci-fri freak but I have no interest in this film. I've never seen a Twilight film or read a Twilight novel ( I REFUSE to ) but I immediately connected Hunger Games with that type of movie. These type pof films seem to be made to appeal to 15 year olds. There is nothing wrong with this but I am not in that demographic!

Ah, but they said that about "I Am Number Four," and it bombed so badly there will not be a sequel.  (Unfortunately, "Hunger Games already has 3 sequels in the works!)

A querstion for the heterosexual committee in California that makes up the MPAA:  This film is about 24 teenagers who "fight to death on live television," and you have rated it a PG-13.   Yet Harvey Weinstein's film "Bully" gets slapped with an "R" because it deals with bullying students and uses words every student since elementary school has heard.  What is your problem, people?

The books are insanely popular, so this stands to make a lot of money--even if it doesn't live up to the hype.  I read the first one--good page turner, if not exactly Madame Bovary.

The title makes it sound like the Olympics in a third world country. (Sorry, I took that off someone's comment on Facebook and I'm not proud.)

Very little the children gobble up like Kibbles 'n Bits is "not exactly Madame Bovary."

Hope the author's not advocating some bullshit like the Twilight writer's abstinence-only Mormonic crap.
