Fire Island Is For Sale!

Eighty percent of the commercial property in the Fire Island Pines is up for grabs!

The same bunch of property that hit the headlines last November when a fire hit the Pavilion nightclub and burned it to a crisp.

According to markatlarge.com, FIP Ventures -- which bought all that property only two years ago, for $17 million -- is now trying to unload it for $22 million.

There's just one problem:

According to the article, the Pavilion's reconstruction process is going slower than a burnt-out reveler trying to find the way back to his share at 4 a.m.

In fact, "As of today, it remains a plot of sand."

Want to spend 22 million bucks for a plot of sand?

I would because it's full of so much possibility. And sand! I adore sand!

But $22 million might be a bit steep, especially since $17 million was considered high two years ago.

Still, I hope someone bites, since the Pines without the Pavilion is like a gay without sunshine.

I emailed co-owner Andrew Kirtzman for comment about all this and he replied, "I don't have anything for you, unfortunately, but wanted to get back to you. I hope to speak with you soon."

In the meantime, place your bids -- but don't pack your disco gear just yet.

They were ruining it anyway. Fire Island was better when it wasn't a Hamptons wannabe Eurotrap. Yea, when Eric and Tony owned it, the food was rubbish and the hotel was a dump,  but the new boys just came in, polished up the pool deck and doubled the prices. They're monopolists who traded everything good about the Pines for a greasy buck. If they lose their shirts, they're getting what's coming to them. If they sell it — at a loss or profit — it'll be worth every penny to get rid of them.

Come to life in Cherry Grove.  If you have even half a doubt as to whether or not you fit in over there...you don't. You need a shallow frame of mind, an attitude and an entourage to be in the Pines.  In the Grove, all you need is to be.See what all the fuss is about, and then get over it.

this rumor was set off by an unsolicited offer of $23M by a wealthy gay couple. Unclear whether the owners will take it or move forward with their plans. $6M profit in 2 years would be tempting.

PS: The nearby Sip n Twirl also burned down, but it's a separate owner and I hear they've laid the foundation for rebuilding and plan to be open by July 4.

That's why I'm a Grove gurl....lesbos [not so much, back in the day] not withstanding..."the greasy elbow girls" who work hard for the money.

While I j'adore mindless speculation and gossip, I hope this isnt true - I am super excited for the new HWKN/DS+R Pavilion.

these properties are always RUMORED to be for sale. Until I see an announcement from the owner's, I will hold my breathe. You dont hire Diller, Scofidio + Renfro to design a new Pavilion and then sell.  Maybe I am being too rational for the Pines. ha!

As an aside, may I just say that Andrew Kirtzman response is how "no comment" is supposed to be done? It's amazing how many people don't get the importance of responding with courtesy and respect--particularly to a journalist.

No offense, I hope it sits, and they are forced to go below 17m. Way below. One of the myths of the rainbow corporate farce is that queers have all this money, don't spend wisely, and can be gouged. Let it sit, let the sand rot, until they come to their senses.

They didn't get enough insurance money out of the fire to keep the Pavilion going?

Hmmm...  Madison5233 is probably Andrew (the illegal guest house he runs is called the Madison) and no that is a total lie.  There have been no offers.  I hear someone is negotiating with the Bank to take over the 10 mill mortgage when it goes into foreclosure.....

any source for this?

Also, they're considering having boat shuttles at night between the Grove and the Pines because they know everyone will be at the Ice Palace (in the Grove).

Well, if it wasn't true, Kirztman would have surely said so.

They obviously didn't hire them to work too quickly.

Yeah, how is this "mindless speculation"? It was all run past the owner, who had no response. I.e., he didn't deny any of it.
