Melissa McCarthy On Meeting Meryl Streep
We've all dreamed of that moment and what we would say.
Well, every year, all those awards shows bring together all sorts of people who are finally forced to say something to Meryl Streep.
And this time, at the Golden Globes, it was Melissa McCarthy getting her first, fabulous chance at bat.
So what did the normally quite verbally agile funny lady say?
"I wanted to say something smart and worthy," Melissa admits to Ladies' Home Journal.
"And what came out of my mouth was, 'Oh, my God, you're Meryl Streep!'
"And then I said, 'I'm sorry I keep saying that. I know you know who you are.'
"And then: 'Oh my God, you're Meryl Streep.'"
And I bet Meryl was thinking, "Oh, my God, you're the chick from Bridesmaids!"
Anyway, Melisssa also gives a shout-out to this very publication in the interview.
She admits that comedy "wasn't exactly my goal."
"One day Brian and I were standing in line at the grocery store and he saw an ad in The Village Voice for an open mike at a comedy club and said, 'You're going to do stand-up.'"
