Broadway's Judy Garland Thanks a Young Fan

Recently, I ran a letter from 22-year-old actor Jason Wise, fuming at a Times article which implied that Judy Garland's legacy is lost on the young, who'd supposedly rather follow the yellow brick road to more current divas.

The original article spun off from a viewing of End of the Rainbow, the Broadway show in which Tracie Bennett plays the legend in a later period filled with extra challenges.

Jason--who preaches Judyism--saw the show, adored it, and feels it's extremely relevant to people under 60, and even people under 23.

And as a result, Bennett wrote him a lovely letter. The below photo of the letter is a little blurry, so you might feel like Judy herself while reading it, but still it's a super classy gesture.

Here it is:

After all the great memories of all those live performances that I was so lucky to see in the Las Vegas years. I recall every movement, every gesture. There will never be  ANOTHER Judy Garland! Entertaining is an under statement. She was magnificent, stunning, astonishing, stupendous, and out right over whelming. She was a classic example of deep self embodiment in expressionism. Most excellent and accomplished performer. I hope Broadway does her , her true justice! And your so right, she is our Gay Patron Saint. She knew that we loved her. When my brother died in 1987, and my lover of 30 years died in 2000, they both had Some Where Over The Rainbow sung at thier funerals! So yes she is my Gay Patron Saint!

I'm going to see this show tonight!  Sounds like I will like it, but I've heard mixed reactions.  I am a Judy fan and understand why the Meatrack on Fire Island is called Judy Garland Memorial Park.  (because she's our patron saint, Blanche!)

That IS nice. How did she get his home address? ESP?

I'll skip the show (the adverts make it feel too much like a British television interpretation of Ms.Garland's life anyway) because there is no way possible its entertainment value can compare to what I got from reading Mr. (I'm assuming) LIMEN's gushing and poignant remembrance/comment.

PS: Check out Judy's countless videos on YouTube. Judging from many of the viewer comments, Judy gains new fans all the time, in particular many youngsters who started out searching for a clip from "Glee" and found hers instead.

Typewritten, not signed.  Did she really type and send this or did a publicist/person at the production office?  Granted, she's performing an exhausting show so it's a nice gesture either way.

Dear billyjoe, my 23 year old boy friend gets a real kick out of others replies to my comments. I wish others had the joys of such a wonderful life as I've been so privileged to had! I still have a lot of family and friends that live in Las Vegas. The old timers were the best at thier trade. And having all those old family friends that ran all the old hotels and casinos, well I never ever had to buy a dinner show. It was my lifes joy. But I'll give you this true story. Judy at the end of her life had really difficult time. She died deeply in debt. But that angel of a daughter Liza Minelli paid evey penny of Judy's debts off! In June we have Dean Martin Day, in Steubenville, Ohio. And it still draws a large number of people. I always get alot of laughs from all the old stories that we have to tell. My dad's sister is married to Dean's nephew. So remember billyjoe what Judy sang to us gays, "SMILE". Thankyou. And thankyou Michael.

Also, when she says "Hope you will join us again," there's no mention of free tickets! So it's basically "Hope you'll buy two more tickets to see us again!"
