Magic Johnson Show Doesn't Shy Away From His HIV

Remember that Broadway musical Fela, which told you everything about the lead character's life -- except his HIV?

That would scare away the tourists, you know.

But according to someone on BroadwayWorld.com who saw the new Broadway play Magic/Bird, "the disclosure bookends the show."

Oh, good. Honesty is the best policy, even on Broadway.

The play, by the way, details the intertwined lives of Basketball Hall of Famers Magic Johnson and Larry Bird.

Says someone else who's seen it:

"It's really a love story of sorts, with Magic and Larry being the couple."

Nice! Though I was hoping it was about a magic bird.

I've always loved Magic for being the first professional athlete  to "come-out" about his HIV status...remember how folks refused to play with him?

Knowing too much, just wondering when Magic works out with his Dodgers will he be playing catcher?

It's by the same guy who wrote Lombardi. SOmeone is managing to get sports-related pieces on Broadway!
