Miss Universe Transsexual Beauty Up Close And Personal

Jenna Talackova is the beautiful contestant who was originally disqualified from Donald Trump's Miss Universe Canada pageant because she's a transsexual.

This is Trump's second birther campaign. The first was that time-waster regarding Obama's birth certificate. Then came this one about whether a beauty contestant was born male or female. He flat-out lost the first campaign, but this time Trump did the right thing and admitted defeat. Jenna's back in the running, so the message is good: Transsexuals are women.

To add to the complicated layers here, I was invited to a meet and greet with Jenna in a New York restaurant on Saturday, and was delighted.

But an hour before the event, I got a call from her rep saying, "This is a meet and greet with LGBTQ leaders. This is not for publicity."

In other words, I couldn't write about meeting Jenna. That sounded sincere and modest, I guess (though I'm not used to being told I can't cover something I'm invited to).

"OK," I said, warily.

"And by the way," the rep added, "there will be cameras there, filming the whole thing for a documentary."

Huh? This was baffling. A no-publicity party that will be filmed for a movie?

At the event, the woman told me, "Sorry. We're approaching this from a human-rights perspective, not entertainment and publicity."

I was stung. "I've written about human rights for 30 years," I said. "I even wrote something heartfelt about Jenna."

In fact, I came to her defense when a lot of people weren't doing so, some of them screeching, "She's a dude, man."

I didn't also tell her I'm an open gay who has put my life on the line, I marched with Act Up, have fought for transsexuals since the '80s, was named to the Out100, got knighted by the Imperial Court, and so on and so on.

Anyway, Jenna and her lawyer Gloria Allred were running late, so I had to leave and go back to my deadlines.

And I never got to meet Jenna up close and personal -- but I'm thrilled that she's trailblazing for transsexual rights.

To me it's admirable that you are still cheering her on, in spite of what sounds like a nightmare day.  When a transperson appears before millions in a pageant, it forces people to do the work, ie. to face whatever inside of them is uncomfortable or angry or repressed. To many, it's not a big deal.  My boss's 11 year old daughter asked her what the story was about and she told her, "The lady was born in a male body and didn't feel comfortable so she changed her body to match the way she fells."  Her daughter, said, "Oh" and went on with her day.   This is a family that has their kids in Catholic school, they dress up like their favorite saint for holidays, etc. For all the horrors that still happen, I'm sometimes amazed by changes.   Thanks for your dedication!!

Looks like she goes to the same surgeon as the pageant owner's daughter, Ivanka.

"Wouldn't pass for fem realness"???? You're an idiot. She was accepted in the pageant without anyone knowing. For months. It wasn't until it was leaked out that it was revealed. And now she's back in the pageant.

sorry! but she looks hard (in the face)! wouldn t pass for fem-realness! or is she just going for talent and congeniality? look at the foto. her and barbara wawa look the almost the same! if you think about it baba wawa looks better and should enter the contest herself.

My comment is, notice what is happening here, the contenst offcials, given what is being reported here, have backed down and are allowing the "person" to re-enter the contest...why is this happening when clearly the vast majority of American would be unconfortable with someone like this being involved in an event like this..but it dosnt matter what the vast majority of people want- the forces of PC rule. The roots of this are in the late 60's or early 70's with groups like the SDS who bullied adminstrations and fellow majority of students into letting them set the lines of what was acceptable social beliefs. A lot of the 1960's radicals have inbedded themselves in academia, the media and government where they have continued to distort society and through backrupt arrogance continue to set the directions and limits of what is acceptable discourse in this very sick society. This incident throws a clear light on theforces and conditions which allows what in total occured here.

That's ___ I'm talking about...

WTF are you talking about????

This is what we have come to in this country. Decisions almost 100% run not by the general99% sense of the average American. It's now 99% what is "politically Incorrect" or "correct"We have gone from elements like the SDS in the late 60"s and early 70's howling orders and demands at college administrations (and not incidentely other students) to now having thisrancid element which has now become an Integral part of government, media and academia deciding what is permissible in American social form and discourse.

THIS incident should serve as a critical insight into the new social process. What is important here isn't this contest or the individuals involved. What is reall important is this is who and how we are now deciding what all of us will be allowed and should feel and what we can openly support in society?

Who in the world elected or even selected this collection of elements which up to now much of the major media termed, properly, radicals? How did they come to have this power over us? Well the truth is they were financed by some of the most importent funds and trusts and...they promoted themselves through cunning and classic bankrupt arrogence. While all of you slept and went about your private lives; not watching.what was happening in your country. And, theseare the extents which this process or distortion and decay has gone to.

OK, so they want human rights press, so they do Barbara "Do you have a penis?" Walters and then the cackling yentas on Barbara's The View? Between Trump, Allred, and Walters all involved, this is beginning to smell funny. Could the whole "battle" have been a big publicity stunt for the pageant?

This person is handling press for the lady and doesn't know who you are or what you've written? There is a word for people like that -- assholes.

As for Jenna, she was beautiful, but demurely quiet on "The View."

But then, she was sitting between La Walters and Gloria Allred.

Have other contestants been surgically altered?  If so, then it's fair and let her participate.  If not, if the rule is that the contestants be natural without surgical enhancements, then, NO, she shouldn't be a contestant.

Dear Teresal:

A transsexual is not a male.

A transsexual is a female who alters her body to match her gender.

Even Donald Trump ended up getting it!!!

I don't think the rules should be changed.  If you are not born a female then you should not be allowed to enter the Miss Universe pagent or any other pagent for women.  Anybody can bed beautiful if you have enough money!!!  This is not fair to all the girl/women that work so hard to maintain their apperance to have a male that has been surgically changed to enter the contest.

Yeah, in the interview, Barbara acted like surgery was such a wild and outrageous thing! Ironic, no?

PS: I was already a little shaken from the no-publicity request. But at the gathering, a man from Canada came over and asked me if I was a lawyer! I got all grand and said something like, "No, thank God. I happen to be a legendary writer." I've never said anything that asinine in my life, but I was in a pissy mood because of everything else. He told me about the human rights he's fought for as a lawyer and I said, "That's great, but you're in the minority." He then lectured me on how I shouldn't discriminate against lawyers. Moments later came the woman's "human rights" bombshell. I told her I felt like I was being discriminated against. it was one big discrimination-circle.

"Human rights" coverage??? Like Barbara Walters asking Jenna about how they turn the penis skin into something that "resembles" a vagina? And asking what she looks like naked?

Thanks for getting it, Rob, and for being supportive.

So now you are even putting the word person in quotes? Jenna is not even a person to you? You are disgusting. And who cares what the majority of Americans would think? This is not up for a vote from the populace. It's an organization trying to do the right thing. You can barely express yourself in a coherent way and yet you are criticizing this advance in human rights? Disgusting.

Apparently those on the wrong side of history also have difficulty expressing themselves. Learn to write, idiot troll.

It's smart business on Trump's part to allow her to compete.  Will improve ratings for sure.  Who knows if he really gave in because he "got it" regarding transpeople.

"Assholes," yes. Or maybe just Canadians.

Have they been surgically altered? Yes! A lot of them have had breast implants! Remember Carrie Prejean, the Miss USA contestant who not only had them, but they were paid for by the pageant! And many Miss Universe contestants have had them (including Jenna). There's no problem with that.

As for the rule, they have now CHANGED the rule so transsexuals can participate. So all's good.

@Liesl and @Teresal564 actually "a transsexual" speaks to a person with a medical condition in which their birth assigned sex does not match their core or brain sex. This community goes through various steps to correct that bringing their body inline with their brain. As such there are men out there who were born with transsexualism, just as there are women like Jenna who were born with transsexualism too.

Thank you, oh person from the middle ages.
