Buzz went out a few weeks ago that Rosie O'Donnell--fresh off getting her show dis-owned by OWN--was going to play the girl-hating orphanage lady Miss Hannigan in the upcoming revival of Annie.

Well, Rosie has tweeted the reality behind that story:

"I auditioned," she wrote, "but didn't get it."

Oh, well. Maybe she couldn't convince as a girl hater.

Rosie O'Donnell is one of the most beautiful people on earth. The staph infection she got on her arm from fisting her gf was awesome. Homosexuals contribute so much.

The role should go to Jan Maxwell.  She's perfect for the role.

Now Rosie is going to be a regular on the Today Show! Kathie Lee and Rosie on the same formerly credible morning show!

Joanna Gleason, anyone?

But what's wrong with Harriet Harris?

If only Elaine Stritch and Angela Landsbury weren't 105.  Either would great.  LuPone would be great.  Donna Murphy.

Poor thing, she's having a bad year, isn't she?

I hope they don't cast Harriet Harris. Give me Bernadette Peters over Rosie any day. Cast it with someone who is actually a professional singer and dancer. Rosie ain't either.

She was cast in Grease and Fiddler because her star was climbing, and stunt casting with her made sense back then.

This time around I am sure the producers were nervous about using her. The stink of failure is still too ripe on her, after it didn't work out with OWN.

I agree with RC1Austin, there is a lot of out-of-work Broadway talent that needs the gig.

Thanks to Ileen Roos for the tip.

Thank goodness for this bit of news.  There are plenty of Broadway ladies who have genuine acting and singing talent, for such a pivotal role of Miss Hannigan.

Oh, quiet. She was great in Grease and I heard she rocked Fiddler.

Maybe Broadway dodged a bullet?

I agree, SD--I think Harris would be great.
