The Cheeriest, Peppiest Variety Show Clip In History! Scary Kitsch!

Categories: Music

You won't need your afternoon dose of coke after seeing this little bit of pop history.

It's the Doodletown Pipers, a clean-scrubbed, singing and bopping ensemble that came off sort of like the Fifth Dimension meets Up With People.

These critters don't stop moving around in place for a second, barely even noticing all the weird large orbs looming around them!

I guess these were the days before Ritalin.

Thanks to The Redundant Variety Hour for the clip.

Looks like an Easter "secular" presentation in some tragically hip evangelical church (oh yes, I used to attend one). And if that's their vision of heaven, I ought to do everything I can to make sure I'm not going there!

They really are peppy in a '60s (not black soul) kind of way.  Like some of those '60s movies where the boys and girls do their dancing.  Very dated, looks sweet, but I'm not so sure it was a sweet time.  Looking at this nostalgia and not longing for the comfort of it!

I vaguely remember them. Their sound transports me back to a time that I'm not sure I want to revisit.

Another savage flashback from the '60s. Make it STOP!

Click the link and you'll see that Roger Miller referred to them as the "Poodletown Diapers."
