Desperate Housewives Is Kaput! Here's What Felicity Huffman Says About It

Wysteria Lane is off the map--in a bad way--as of this Sunday, when the Desperate Housewives divorce themselves from the reality of having a TV series.

It's the finale.

And Felicity Huffman (who has won awards for playing Lynette for eight years) spoke to Parade about the big kissoff:

The final read-through...

"There were secret blue pages, which were the end-end scenes, and you couldn't take them out of the room. But of course everybody took them out of the room. I was walking around talking to the writers and they caught me with my blue pages. They have the un-envious job of ending something. You either have to go off the cliff like Thelma & Louise or come in under wire and fade to black like The Sopranos."

The finale...

"They actually hit something that I didn't expect. It's very heartfelt, melancholy, and very satisfying. They didn't try and top it all. They didn't try to put a button on it. Over the past eight years we've all had a romance with Desperate Housewives and it's great when that romance ends so satisfactorily. And I don't mean everybody hugs in the end. You just go, 'oh yes, it hits those sweet spots of satisfaction.'"

The future of Tom and Lynette...

"Between Tom and I there were little gasps of 'Ooh! That's what happens?' Our characters find an interesting and unusual happy ending. You get a good sense of where each character is going to go and it's very fun and really appropriate. You go, 'Oh yes, of course that is what she should be doing in 20 years or next year.' The satisfaction comes from seeing where the characters end up and where they might be in the future."

Perhaps a sequel called Desperate Divorcees?

I would love to see Desperate Housewives come back. Some old characters, some grown up and new people as well. Karen McCloskey is  dead as well as Mike, Carl, Edi.

Preston, Porter, Parker, Penny and Paige, Tom and Lynette's kids.

Andrew(new partner) Danniele and her son Benjamin.

Juanita and Cecilia Solis (Carlos and Gaby's daughters.

Julie, her son, MJ, Susan's children.

Grandchild that Susan, Tom and Lynette share.

Perhaps, depending on who comes back of the original cast, show them in New York, California, Kentucky and where Susan moved to as well as the next generation and new people on the lane.

There was also Renee and Ben and Lee and his partner. There was also Travers, Edi's son as well as her nephew (forgot his name). What about Karen's husband? The show could start with his funeral.

With new writers as well as the excellence of Marc Cherry and new ideas, I think it could work.

Keep the name or maybe a new one:  Wysteria Lane 5 years later or Desperate People or Desperate Housewives, the next generation.

You could even bring back some of the people who were on for different seasons. I am going to hope.

Lynette was a good character well played by her actor but I found the show unwatchable, makes ZERO sense and is boring.

I stopped watching after the first season after Carlos' mom was killed off.

Loved Felicity and liked her in Transamerica. Maybe now she can resume her film career.

The show had one great season then spiraled for seven more years. Sad waste of talent.
