You think the (Double) Standard Hotel was moronic for telling a guy with a ladies' bag that he had to check it because it wasn't gay night?

Well, get a load of what William Angel Bailey (Jada Valenciaga) wrote on Facebook about an attempt to go to Pulse karaoke bar on West 41st Street.

"Calling all gay, lesbian, transgendered, bisexual, or ANYONE who is a supporter:

"Last night I tried to go to a friends birthday party at PULSE in drag before I had to be at work. I was not allowed in after being told by the bouncer that 'they don't accept my kind' and following that he proceeded to call me a stripper and say that they have a dress code.

"I proceeded to put on BOY clothes in front of the Bar in order to see my friend and he says 'We have a dress code.'

"Yet according to another friend who was there, there were boys in jeans and sneakers, which is what I had changed into.

"Needless to say it was one of the most humiliating moments in my life.

"PLEASE send me every number to every LGBT center and organization in NYC. This kind of ignorance cannot and will not stand. We have fought too long just to take 3 steps back. IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE!"

PS: I've asked Pulse bar for comment and will relay it when they respond.

Never had a problem going to PULSE, and I'm as gay as a three dollar bill.

The DM said we don't allow your kind here and then proceeded to call him a stripper? This place's door policy doesnt allow strippers or drag queens or drag queens who work as strippers? I am having a hard time connecting the doorman's bad attitude with an antigay "policy" and I am not the one to give ANYONE the benefit of doubt!I also have had problems or two at the door of third rate establishments when I was not dressed well enough for the liking of the meatheads at the door, this is one reason I stopped going to clubs YEARS ago. I am not a stripper, don't look like one and I am not fabulous enough to be a drag queen. I was denied entry because the doormice didn't think I was dressed up enough to dance in a dark, sweaty club!

And don't we think that shows some measure of guilt? They can't even come up with a fake excuse.

PS; I asked for an official statement from the club by filling out a form on their site. No one ever got back to me.

These homophobic heterosexist MFs are like something out of the PRE-Stonewall Era, gag! They need to check themselves, fast, right out of New York City!

William is a friend of mine and I was embarrassed not for william because hes wonderful and string enough to handle even the hardest blow of ignorance...but for pulse bar. its a shame to see that the still employ such ignorant tactics...a bouncer is just that...not some kind of high priest of society. This is New York...get real.

It doesn't change...not to take anything away from this story (gay or "straight"), but it reminded me of a time back in the '80's when a well known drag (a regular at The Anvil) was denied entrance at  Dugout(back in the day..you know the place Sundays...sunset beer blast..when it lived at the CORNER of Christopher/West Side Hwy...not the current RockBar situation) and he was dressed as a boy...not in drag!  He a friend and with a bunch of us "regulars"....we were OK, him, not....we refused to go in....yes, we were with the "Electrifying Grace" outta drag.

Yes, it had it's own version of "male" drag.

Shame on you Village Voice for picking on PULSE! They are AMAZING! Maybe if Jada had some class she would have gotten in? Something to think about people!

V.V. was all for supporting Pulse and their outreach to the gay community last year.... follow the link below! Not to mention that they used to have a Yuhua Hamasaki as one of their performers. Do your research before you judge, go there and find our for yourself.http://imageshack.us/photo/my-...

The worst is that they made him change into male attire and then STILL wouldn't let him in. Thanks for passing this along, Musto.

What is with the homophobia in NYC, so blatant even in 2012? it's sickening.

No, but apparently all the Kansans (Kansasians?) have now moved here.
