Kate Hudson's New Movie: "Career Suicide"?

A Little Bit of Heaven has bouncy Kate Hudson as "an irreverent young woman who unexpectedly falls in love with her doctor," but critics are saying it's the film itself that needs life support.

Here are some of the reviews, which to everyone involved in the film must seem like a little bit of hell:

"A romantic comedy about cancer. I've officially seen it all."

"Kate Hudson's career suicide continues with the devastatingly unfunny, tonally jarring A Little Bit of Heaven."

"As a cancer drama it is insultingly sickly sweet, as a comedy it's lazily written and executed, and as a romance it is devoid of chemistry and passion."

"Manages to be both weird and boring."

"Not a film that I would ever commend to the ill, the well, or to anyone in that grey area in between."

"One long biopsy of pure horror: the tumors of sentimentality and bad acting metastasise everywhere, and Gael Garcia Bernal, in particular, is horrendously bad."

"Jaw droppingly mawkish and offensively trivial about confronting one's mortality."

"I had no idea colon cancer was so much fun!...It is so fantastic to be dying! Call it the Ass Cancer Life Plan. Every modern girl needs it."

And finally, my own review:

Wanna see! Wanna see!

Can't wait for her follow-up, "Polli-O," in which she and her boyfriend are both in iron lungs.

Speaking of career suicide: How about Jennifer Hudson's choice to play Carrie's sassy black assistant as a follow-up to Dreamgirls?

Whatever happened to the other "Y Tu Mama Tambien" guy, Diego Luna? I think he was in "Milk," but that was it.

Her career has been on life support for more than a decade.  I thought for sure it was becoming more about who else she could take down with her like Anne Hathaway in Bride Wars.

A lot of foreign actors (the male variety) transition to Hollywood with either impressive results or terrible performances. Funny because I just finished watching Gael Garcia Bernal's Almodovar movie, and he was ah-mazing! I guess his predecessor here would be Antonio Banderas - also excellent with Almodovar and forgettable in the US.

Bernal was OK as well in several other foreign films, so maybe the solution would be ... deport him and import Almodovar, pronto!

Gael Garcia Bernal has now become the handsome, Mexican equivalent of Cuba Gooding, Jr.

"A romantic comedy about cancer" inadvertently suggests a great film...but I accept that this one isn't it.

Did you expect her to play Blanche Dubois?

Her film with Anne Hathaway a few years back was pretty damn awful too......

Career suicide? Nah. You can't double kill a corpse.

Honestly...can anyone name any movie--other than her Oscar nominated turn in "Almost Famous"--in which this actress has given a memorable or critically praised performance?

Her only other accomplishments: being Goldie Hawn's daughter, getting knocked up by rock stars, and being Goldie Hawn's daughter.

Sounds even worse than that other cancer comedy, 50/50.

The reviews are hilarious! This is the new Gigli, but with cancer.

I thought at one point both of them were co producing stuff together in Mexico more than they were acting in the US.

Hear, hear!!!  Her "career highlight" was "dating" A-Rod....(and even he got rid of her).
