Some Rich Gays Are Stiffing Obama in Protest!

Wait, that sounds a little dirty.

How about "Some rich gays are pulling out..."?

Nah, that sounds suggestive, too.

Well, however you phrase it, this is serious stuff.

See, Obama has had a pretty good record with regard to LGBT decision making (though he's still "evolving" about same-sex marriage--Ugh! Evolve already!).

But his refusal to sign an executive order forbidding same-sex discrimination by federal contractors pissed lots of people off last month.

So in protest, some rich gays are trying to hit him where it hurts by refusing to donate any more cash to the pro-Obama super PAC.

The feeling, according to this editorial, is that Obama's rationale--that he'd rather pursue a legislative solution to this matter--is bogus, seeing as such a solution would never get through Congress.

Obama is clearly reeking of wussiness here, knifing the gays in order to desperately try to appease some conservatives--who aren't going to vote for him anyway!

God, I hate politics, and I really hate being used as a pawn in some sad political charade.

And that's not all.

While Vice President Joe Biden said he was comfortable with gay marriage just the other day, there was then a backtrack insisting that he wasn't endorsing such a thing after all--he's just evolving too!

And Obama is evolving so slowly, The L.A> Times says he's risking getting lost in the dust on this issue.

Oy.

Don't you almost want to start withdrawing your money?

Thanks to Rex Wockner for the tip.

As a gay man not living in the USA, here's my take:

If your President comes out in support of same-sex marriage in an election year, there's a good chance he will lose in November.  Think of all the religious/conservative African-Americans wo would either vote for Romney or sit the election out.  (a repeat of the California Prop 8 vote)

That means Romney - the man who aspires to be "severely conservative" - will appoint Supreme Court justices for the next 4 years, will promote an agenda pandering to the tea-bagger extremists, will escalate the war on women.

It pains me to say this but Obama's pragmatism might be the best path.

Sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture - no matter how much it hurts and offends.

Fuck all of you cunts. OBAMA ENDED DADT. That, alone, should secure our votes. Yet all I hear is bitching.

We'll go backwards under a Romney presidency. That Morman weathervane has promised to undo everything Obama has done for us *and* to pursue a constitutional amendment barring gay marriage nationally. Yes, keep up the pressure, but let's not forget that we're playing a long game here.

I'm very saddened that Obama is using our well being as a pawn in his re-election. I wonder if Biden supporting gay marriage was a bone to throw at us, to distract from Obama's "wussiness," as you put it. But it obviously backfired. It's only cast a light on how Obama needs to evolve faster.

More beautiful than JFK and Jackie? I don't think so.

One must admit, though, that that's the most beautiful First Couple, inside and out, that America's ever had.

here we go again! a narrow view of the african-american community. it won't be just the--as you put it--conservative/religious african-ameircans who would vote romney in...it will be all kinds of americans voting romney in.just so we won't have an african-american man at the helm of this nation.it's the whites in north carolina voting to ban gay marriages there. i don't think pres. obama is worried about the african-american vote...gays can even marry in south africa! thank you! nelson mandela! (black man)!

We're supposed to take seriously an argument that begins "Fuck all of you cunts"? That kind of moronic remark is supposed to imbue us with a sense of gay pride? And are you so naive that you feel being allowed into the military is enough! I guess also wanting equality at the workplace and in marriage is asking too much--when after all, we can go fight in bogus wars now!

"Inside and out." The more I learned about the Camelot couple the less respect I had for them.

Good points.  On second reflection, I should not have singled out religious conservatives within the African-American community.  Perhaps it's more accurate to say that religious conservatives that supported Obama in 2008 might desert him?

The reality is that most Obama 2008 supporters could find something not to like about him and his administration's first term.  But if every one takes that as a cue not to support him... well, you get Romney.

Thanks for pointing out South Africa's great progress on same-sex marriage.  But I'm sure you realise that the legislation passed in 2006 (after a significant legal battle) while Mbeki (the guy who doesn't believe in the HIV virus) was President - Mandela had retired in 1999.

Bravo. Besides, the DADT repeal didn't happen without us kicking and screaming and demanding it for years. Are we supposed to shut up now about other rights?

i agree. it was nice to see an african-american family in the white house for christmas! also, what people fail to note is that early on in his presidency; pres. obama tried to pass a law that would make legal for gay people (one born of us citzenship and the partner not); their union would be joe binding. the teabaggers emerged ruining any kind of civilized talks (about anything)!.the current law: gay civil unions are only between us citizens.so, being amerikkka you´re always going to hear the negatives about my presidentnot what he has achieved so far for this country. the economy is improving. unemployment is steadly declining. 6 months ago: 9.1 now 8.1. dadt and not standing behind doma.i´m voting for him. fuck romney! another nazi waiting in the wings!and what´s romney ´s position on the subject?

we´ll carry on without those "some rich gay dollars"!
