Tammy Bruce Says She's Been Told She'll Never Guest Host For O'Reilly Because She's Gay

This is from Media Matters:

Tammy Bruce is a conservative radio show host who regularly appears on The O'Reilly Factor with host Bill O'Reilly.

Bruce is openly gay, a fact she's noted on The O'Reilly Factor. Yes, the show does allow openly gay guests.

But a host? Or even a guest host?

Maybe not.

Says Media Matters: "Bruce tweeted yesterday that she's been told she'll never guest host The O'Reilly Factor because she's gay. Bruce did not specify whether she had received that message from the network's personnel, but replied favorably to a fan who responded to her tweet by criticizing the network.

"Bruce's comments came in response to a follower who told her that she needs 'to fill in for O'Reilly sometime.' Bruce replied: 'I'd love to fill in for O'Reilly, but I've been told it will never happen because I'm gay. Go figure...' "

It's possible she meant she's been told that by observers, not by the network, but "Messages to Bruce seeking clarification and comment were not returned. Fox News also did not return a request for comment."

Hmm, sounds fishy. Either way, the questions are:

*Has Tammy Bruce dodged a bullet by not hosting that icky show?

*And how much sympathy are we supposed to have for a conservative gay slash Fox contributor anyway?

Update: Tammy Bruce has now written something clarifying everything and using it as a chance to bash liberals as humorless.

As a lesbian feminist, I used to watch mainly MSNBC (and occasionally CNN), totally avoiding FOX because liberal orthodoxy required that I did so. Maybe two years ago, I finally decided to view FOX, just to see for myself what was going on there that was apparently so "horrible"... OK, Beck (now off the air) was nuts, and Hannity was/is an ass. But then there were Shepard Smith, Bret Baier, Neil Cavuto, and Greta Van Susteren, all of whom were completely rational, albeit mildly right-leaning, newspeople. And who, more importantly, were straightforward and not snarky. The un-funny lecturing snark of MSNBC's Ed Schultz, Rachel Maddow (who SHOULD be my lesbian feminist heroine), and Lawrence O'Donnell gets old and unwatchable very quickly. At least the opinionated Bill O'Reilly is funny and arguable with. You get the sense that you could go back and forth with him in an open debate; with the MSNBC crew, though, you feel they'd mock you for watching TV (despite that hypocrisy) or for not being a vegan or for not affecting the identical clipped speech that Maddow and Chris Hayes favor.

As for gays on FOX: Greg Gutfeld's "Red Eye" has a completely idiosyncratic, overtly gay sensibility that Gutfeld also brings to "The Five" show in prime-time.

After two years of watching FOX after being told not to by The (both gay and straight) PC Police, I'm a fan of the network.

Easy to figure out. Woman -> lesbian -> conservative = straight man. Bashing would be entirely justified.

@corrective  I love "Quisling queers"; I'd been using "fascist fairies" but I think I'll switch.

Her update makes it even worse.

And by the way yes, of course they're thrilled to have an openly gay person who totes the conservative party line. This way they bring down both gays and liberals at the same time.

I detest discrimination of the sort she's being subjected to, but I also feel sorry for deluded gay-lesbian-trans-queer people like her all up under our oppressors! Tammy, don't grovel, fight back!

She deserves every dis in the world.

No sympathy for quisling queers when they themselves experience the homophobia they help sustain.

I've alluded to the thought a bit but it makes more and more sense that gay republicans are akin to self-cutters who love watching themselves bleed in the mirror.

I have zero sympathy.  How could she work with that blow-hard asshole?

If you spend the coin for premium cable, check out Bill Maher--you'll get the funny liberal you can argue with.

When someone says, I'm [insert identity marker here] but I [indicate contradictory act here] - there's two possibilities: the person's lying, or not very smart.

Oh watch what you want but don't try to justify liers like Neil Cavuto and Bret Baier, or phonies like Bill O'Reilly to us. Do you really think that station gives a damn about you as a lesbian feminist? Where are the lesbian feminists on that station? Where are the out gay men other than Shepard Smith? Where are the feminists?

You do you, quisling queer, but you're not fooling anybody, and why not just give up watching these tendentious, non-news stations altogether and get your information from the internet where you can at least sort things out for yourself?

Bill O'Reilly - the "least opiated one" did you say? -  enjoys expressing outrage at the mere sight of two men kissing in public at the Oscars. Several of the other Fox anchors you mention are total closet cases. I don't just mean darlin' lil' Shep.

But you're correct, Maddow should be your hero.
