Queen Latifah Didn't Come Out After All

Remember when it was announced that Queen Latifah was going to play a gay event in Long Beach and everyone started shrieking that this meant the woman had come out?

I seized the opportunity to weigh in with the sense that this might be a teeny tiny act of inching out a wittle bit--or it might just be another paying gig.

Well, guess what?

It was just another paying gig.

She wasn't coming out--AT ALL!

Latifah explains that she has never dealt with her pesonal life and she never will.

Gee, isn't it heartwarming to know that a major star has decided that her lesbianism is completely off limits when it comes to on-the-record discussions through eternity?

With so many celebs coming out, Latifah publicly cementing her glass-closet status is a bizarre act of defiance.

But on the bright side, she certainly didn't say, "I did not come out because I'm not gay!"

Her shtick is to be gay but not say so, and I guess we're going to have to deal with it.

And my way of dealing with it might be to go to her next gig and scream, "Yay, lesbian!"

Now which way is Long Beach?

If they're not playing a homophobe I don't think they should be outed. But you have to wonder what's going on in their minds. It's not like it's such a big deal anymore. And maybe she's bi and feels patronized by insinuations that she's a lesbian (as her defense mechanism, in other words.) Didn't think of that one, did ya?

Queen Latifah?

Just another Tyler Perry character.

I personally think it's wrong to demand that someone "publically proclaim" who they are if they clearly are a private person, and she most definitely is.  How many of us would allow someone else to force us to divulge something we feel is private about ourselves?? Not many I'm sure.   She owes nobody, and she's given so much through her craft and leadership a strong, confident woman.......that's enough for me.  Fan for life, and happy to have her as a role model for my daughters....period.

This really pisses me off ... she's gonna be another one of those like Rosie O'Donnell or Sean Hayes who in a few years wind up saying, "Oh, what? I've never been in the closet. I've always been out!" Or else pull a hissy fit (like the aforementioned SH) who actually have the nerve to get all cranky when people insist they stop being hypocrites and come out.

I respect people's right to come out or not come out on their own terms but I do think coming out would not hurt Queen's career as people have connected the dots a long time ago.

I remember thinking "How could this be coming out? She just accepted a gig." But I can't believe she had to be crass enough to explain that, lest anything think she DID come out. With so many stars coming out, Latifah comes out really out of it and obsolete.

good for her!and like she said: it's not gonna happen!

"i think it's funny people are on blacks about being homophobic, but don't admit that gays are some most racists people there are. no one is right."a quote from flirtyrockstar82

Thanks to Brendan Lemon for the tip.

No one's demanding anything. But it would sure be nice and very honorable and moving and effective for her to come out like so many celebrities have done. And she'd feel a weight lifted off her own shoulders as well. Having her cower in the closet doesn't make her a good role model for MY daughters.

Are you daft?

Girl, what are you talking about? Everybody knows thing is a lesbian, she's just hoping to keep holding onto those dollars. Get it together, Queen Latifah and come out!

You just praised Wanda Sykes for being out and proud and now you're praising Latifah for being in the closet. You're as false and phony and hypocritical as always.

Hardly,  I was referring to "her private life" contrary to what you may think her character persona is actually just her job in her professional life and believe or not she's entitled to privacy in her private life and doesn't owe you anything.   Sheesh!

Bravo! And the problem with "gays are racist" quote is that straights are racist too. Why single out gays as being more racist than straights???

But the blacks that are homophobic certainly don't hate straight too! They just pick gays as their targets.

Exactlyl! She had one of the highest profile weddings (and marriages) to an opposite sex person in the history of mankind!!!

Right. And I'm sure when people talk about Brangelina or any other straight couple, you immediately start screaming "Everyone stop! This is offensive and tasteless!" and leave the room.

That had nothing to do with sexuality. No one said Diana had the right to stay in the closet about being straight!!!!!

Yeah ONLY when gayness comes up. Are you serious?!? How about Princess Diana??? Her request for privacy got her killed by those who totally disrespected her request. Only for gayness - BS.

That's not true.  I don't want to hear about who straight people are sleeping with either.  It's none of my business.

It's only when gayness comes up that suddenly we hear cries of "Privacy is important and should be protected!"
