The Busiest Singing Dubber In Hollywood History Wasn't Marni Nixon...

Categories: Film

...It was a little lady by the name of Martha Mears, who supplied the vocals for at least 50 actresses, as witnessed by this amazing new YouTube clip compiled by Mark Milano, debuting right here on La Daily Musto.

Martha did the singing for stars like Claudette Colbert, Loretta Young, Hedy Lamarr, Rita Hayworth, Veronica Lake, and on more than one occasion, lucky, loopy Lucille Ball.

Her voice was rich, throaty, and a little husky, so she was a good fit for the tougher gals who came around the turnpike, as opposed to the fluffy ingenue types who needed some high trills to match their dimples.

And if you want to see Martha singing as herself, wait till the end of the clip and there she is, in person!

Not only talented, but a looker too.

Cheers, Martha. You sing for all of us.

PS: Check out hunky Guy Madison at about the 7:35 mark. No, he's not lipsynching to Martha. You'll see.
