Katie And Suri Are Catholic: Is That Really Better?

Categories: Religion

Loving, caring Katie Holmes has reportedly gone back to Roman Catholicism and she's taken Suri with her.

As a lapsed Catholic, I have to ask: Is that really better than Scientology?

And the answer would be: Yeah, a little bit.

The Church has started holy wars, destroyed lives, demonized gays, oppressed women, and caused major problems in the world for centuries, all while preaching biblical messages of love and peace.

But they just pass a basket around once a week, into which you can throw a buck and feel all noble about it.

Scientology's basket is always in your face, since they love large and constant deposits of cash to help fuel their frenzy.

They could probably suck you dry if you let them.

They're also way more directly controlling, advising, and ominous about anyone in their midst, especially when you try to go against their grain.

Their level of mind domination is even more forcible than anything in the bible. It's reportedly large-scale drama and way more creepy-culty than the horror of Catholicism, which you can generally block out with earplugs.

And they don't seem to have any floats in Gay Pride parades any more than the Catholics do.

So I'd say Katie made a marginally better move.

But I'd be prouder of her if she said, "You know what? I'm renouncing all religion for my daughter and I."

Here, have a fudge brownie and a glass of milk, sit down , make yourself comfortable and don't hold back; tell me how you really feel.

Great, thanks for sharing. Unfortunately you have a leader (Pope) that insists he is on the same level as Christ and should be addressed as such on earth. And the org is a little slow on the apology tip for past atrocities.  Really, saying you're sorry about something that you did in the 15th century, that's how far you've gotten in the moral Rolodex? Musical chairs for priests who don't know how to keep their hands to themselves, being the third richest corporation world wide, and sanction of slavery until the 20th century (guess than apology won't be seen until the 30th century) initial sympathizers of Nazi Germany, and-- lest we forget-- the Inquisition, there's not a lot of "there, there".  The only thing that Catholicism  and Scientology have in common is that there are a lot of good people with good intentions who really believe that what they believe will be a help to others. It's just that the organization that they belong to is, for the most part, fraudulent.

The early Romans (leaders) hijacked Christianity, blended it into their poly-theistic customs so that it would be more palatable to the citizens, and MADE Catholicism. Of course they saw it that way. Well, maybe not the government which likely used it for control and extortion.

"...for my daughter and me (or myself)."  NOT "...for my daughter and I." !!!

I was a Catholic school girl and I'm a practicing Catholic now. It's stunning to know how many people are actually comparing Catholicism to the Cult of Scientology.  They are nothing alike.  When you encounter a Catholic in your daily life, whether it's a store clerk, waitress, nurse, teacher, bank teller or just a cookie baking neighbor lady, does the fact that they are Catholic set off your radar to run as far away from this person (and fast) because they are so incredibly weird and you fear that they will try to brainwash you and recruit you to be one of those Catholic people yourself?   I feel very privileged to live in a community where my neighbors, co-workers, and people in my day to day life don't treat me any differently than if I were Methodist, Lutheran, Presbyterian. etc...  As a community we have very successfully combined the efforts of those of different faiths and beliefs to work together on the behalf of many charitable endeavors whether it's helping build ramps for  wheelchair users at their homes, putting together spaghetti dinners or pancake breakfasts for someone who needs money because of atrocious medical expenses or having lost their home in a fire, or even organizing bake sales to help the local Hospice.   If my neighbors are offended that every mid-December I bring over Christmas cookies and a Christmas card that includes a photo of my kids cheesy smiles with the dog trying to bite a Christmas ornament off of the Christmas tree, well, they've never told me, and I would certainly not continue to do so if they expressed that it offended or bothered them.  In fact, my neighbors across the street, who do not have a religious belief, also give us a card and thoughtfully bring over homemade goodies.  I'm Catholic,  I'm not a robot, or a child molester or a murderous crusader.  I'm just an American, like you.  Thanks for listening.  Oh, and by the way - - any suggestions for the neighbors cookies for this year?

And "garden-variety" means what, Raydar?  Have you read a second, third perhaps a fourth book really slow and clearly?  What is heaven to you?  Does Sylvia Sydney run your purgatory lobby?  Do you countenance Dante's nine rungs of hell or is that too secular for you?  Maybe you are simply quite dumb and we need a willing American nun under siege to rap yer knuckles with a ruler.

Catholic school girls are hard core. Look at Katie, she single handedly inflicted a mortal wound to Scientology. With a mom like that and catholic school upbringing,Suri might one day rule the whole fucking world.

I so agree that no religion is better than either of these disturbing cults. Sending Suri to Catholic school isn't doing her any favors.
