Big Sodas: Where You Can Still Get Them

Mayor Bloomberg's war on obesity got a big thumbs up when city officials passed a ban on large sugary drinks.

That goes into effect in six months, but there are ways for pigs like us to get around it and still suck in lots of liquid sugar (while secretly smoking in nightclubs and having sex in bathrooms).

For sodas greater than 16 ounces:

You can't get them in restaurants, delis that gets letter grades, and stadium and theater concessions.

You can get them at supermarkets, bodegas, and pharmacies.

Wait!

Before you run out to a supermarket, bodega or pharmacy, please read the other tips for where to pig out.

Right, But it used to be $3 for a large. But now it's $2.50 for a small. Buying two will cost $5.

Give them all up now before you're diabetic.

Fresh brewed unsweetened tea has caffeine & good things like antioxidants, polyphenols, flavonoids and catechins - and only a couple of calories. Avoid bottled and canned varieties; they lack all those good things. If you add sugar to tea, give it up - you will soon dislike the taste of sweet tea.

Trade rum & coke for gin & tonic. A twist of lime is sweet enough.

@nostradavid I love a good G&T, the problem is most tonic these days is sweetened with high-fructose corn schtuff.  Check the label on the bottle!
