Retirees Strike Back Against Romney's Remarks Over 'Dependent' Seniors

Edward F. Coyle, Executive Director of the Alliance for Retired Americans, has this response to Mitt Romney's views on those who look for government support:

"Mitt Romney's offensive comments show his true colors, a callous indifference to millions of hard-working Americans.

"No, Mitt Romney, retirees who receive Social Security and Medicare are not 'dependent'-rather they are proud men and women who paid Medicare and Social Security taxes in every paycheck they ever earned.

"They are part of a generations-old national commitment to workers, honoring a lifetime of hard work with help toward retiring with dignity and security.

"While shocking, Romney's private comments mirror his public stances.

"Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are the most anti-senior ticket ever, running on a platform that would enrich big insurance companies by creating a voucher-based Medicare program and let Wall Street profit off a risky, privatized Social Security system that would provide lower benefits to workers forced to stay longer on the job.

"Before Social Security and Medicare, too many people worked until the day they died or lived out their final years in terrible health and poverty.

"These offensive comments by Mitt Romney are a stark reminder that he wants to turn back the clock on the great progress our nation has made."

But the clock is ticking on his own moment in the sun.

Tick tick tick....

I was just driving home listening to NPR and they played a clip of him on FOX news saying that he meant that there should be better jobs for the 47% so that they could pay federal income tax. Yeah, right, fool - first you and your buddies ship all the jobs overseas, then you sink the world economy and I'm supposed to believe that's what you meant. I have some respect for an accomplished bullshitter, but he's just sad.

Also a strange explanation from a man who made his living buying up companies, stripping out the assets and throwing the employees out of work.

We knew this already didn't we?

Sidebar: I "love" how the most neanderthal commenters [everywhere] glom onto the mythical people in the Bronx who ALWAYS buy luxury goods...presumably "stealing" from them.   Yet, see nothing wrong about the rich lining their own pockets "stealing" from "honorable" people.

Oh yeah, that's "good business sense."...I got mine! F U !!!!!

These a-holes really think that the only thing our tax dollars should go towards is lining the pockets of defense contractors. Nauseating.

He has contempt for anyone who isn't  a big business pal of his. Even Bloomberg tries to care about the little guy once in a  while.
