Did Barbra Streisand Re-Use An Old Version Of "My Man" For The Funny Girl Movie?

The answer seems to be yes, judging from the below video posted by Townhouse pianist Rick Unterberg.

The version of "My Man" used in the 1968 Oscar-winning film sounds eerily like the one Babs had already recorded in 1965 for her My Name Is Barbra album.

I mean, it's note for note.

Yikes.

Should they change her name to My Name Is Ballsy?

Should they rescind her Oscar and turn it into buttah?

Nah.

When you've done a letter-perfect take of something, why try to do a new one?

You know?

While the idea for the clip came from Rick, I actually made it myself.

And yes, Barbra does sing the first half live.  She then lip-synchs the second half - to a three-year-old recording!

strangely, i am at peace with whatevah she chose to do.

How could it have been recorded live on the soundstage when she obviously used her My Name is Barbra version? I think maybe the intro was recorded live, and the rest was canned.

@mikeymusto They do sound similar. Michael are you seeing Barbra on the short tour she's doing. I'm seeing her in Chicago on October 26th.

um, i'll take a listen but the most famous thing about that scene is that it was recorded live on the soundstage, which was practically never done. Barbra insisted upon it and it's probably what won her the Oscar.

I never thought of it before, but they definitely used her previously recorded version. Super weird.
