Carnival Bans Drag Patrons From Drag Cruise!

Categories: Drag Queens

Get this:

Carnival is doing a "Drag Stars at Sea" cruise, featuring performances by various drag queens.

But they sent out a memo to patrons saying that customers are by no means allowed to dress in drag!

In fact, if they do so, they will be "disembarked" at their own expense!

Their drop earrings will be pulled off, their heels will be yanked, and they'll be kicked in the seat of their Joyce Leslie.

They add that this is because Carnival is a family-friendly cruise and they don't want children to be upset.

Even though they're on a drag cruise!

And even if they weren't, why would a kid be traumatized by drag, unless there's some horrible adult screaming at them that the bible says it's wrong?

In the wake of some complaints, Carnival has changed their stance quicker than a drag queen switching outfits.

They're still banning drag, mind you, but they've altered their reason:

It's because of post-9/11 security restrictions!

Oh, so drag is suddenly a national security risk?

That's an even worse reason.

Yet they have "costume night" on many of their cruises...I know, I've beenon several with one blinks an's part of the "fun".Yes, I know this is a dodge in case some "holy roller" is "scarred" by apassenger in drag, not the "entertainment". Sheesh! Wonder if a"Sandusky" outfit will be OK?

The Mister and I took a cruise last winter - good fun, mostly, from a slightly more upscale line than Carnival. One of the highlights was keeping our eye out each evening for a rather glamorous older couple, one of whom was very clearly en travestie in a series of elegant gowns and full Big Lady toilette.

Another couple we met told us of people they'd seen who were legendary regulars on this line (although, alas, not on our trip); they appear each night at dinner in progressively more elaborate theme outfits - Chinese mandarin, Court of Louis XIV, Roaring Twenties, etc.

All of which makes this seem all the more ham-handed...

@mikeymusto If this wasn't so blatantly bigoted, it would be funny.

The linked article says this could open Carnival to lawsuits. MANY lawsuits. Fingers crossed.

Didn't Kathie Lee shill for these freaks? And didn't they have some kind of horrible disaster last year? And drag is their biggest problem????

@suburbanoinker yes she did...and while that contract was still alive, you'd be "spooked" by hearing her voice blared all over the boat on your first if you needed to hear her after you'd booked the cruise....but the "fly-over" folks loved it.
