My Guide To This Year's Oscar Movies

The holiday film classics piled up last month--and when I say holiday films, I mean stuff about tsunamis, plane crashes, shipwrecks, and bin Laden.

It's all pretty horrible--except that when quality films result, the ennobling glow can be felt all the way to the Academy Awards ceremony.

So I've devoted this week's column to my no-holds-barred appreciations of these films, like Silver Linings Playbook, Anna Karenina, Life of Pi, Flight, Zero Dark Thirty, Lincoln, Hitchcock, Les Miserables, and other gems without any tap dancing.

By the end, you might not feel like doing a jig, but you'll surely be overcome with the urge to buy a ticket.

And to sing live!
