The Best Twilight Zone Episode Ever!

New Year's Eve brought the start of the glorious Twilight Zone marathon on Syfy channel, and I was glued, even though I realized I'd seen every single one of these Rod Serling-created twisty dramas before. Several times.

And I have to say I have a new number one.

I don't want to go with the same old "Twenty Two" (aka "Room For One More") episode or "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" or "To Serve Man" or any of the ther widely appreciated ones that have become a creepy part of the culture.

Let's pick a fave that hasn't been celebrated enough:

Stopover in a Quiet Town.

The description:

"Young New York married couple Bob and Millie Frazier leave a party after drinking too much.

"They wake up in Centerville, a small town where no one lives, houses are empty, trees are props, food is plastic, and the only train comes right back to Centerville."

It's the ultimate nightmare. You have a few dozen cocktails and end up in a fake place without people, sustenance, or anything else--sort of like certain parts of Florida!

They're thrilled to find a train that actually moves, but alas, it comes right back to the horror of this phony town filled with nothingness.

Barry Nelson and Nancy Malone are terrific as the disturbed couple trying to figure a way to split from this nightmare, only to find there's no way out.

Even more unnervingly, they keep hearing the loud giggling of a girl coming from above.

Well, at the end, the girl--who's gigantic--picks up the tiny married couple in her hand and keeps giddily laughing.

Is she Honey Boo Boo?

No, it turns out she's a Martian and her daddy managed to scoop up these earthlings for her to play with on a big board game!

It's so chilling, even if it seems a little bit like a reworking of another Twilight Zone episode--Five Characters In Search of an Exit.

Serling ends the piece by warning us not to drive drunk--but the message is also clearly to beware of aliens who view us as playthings!

That one used to disturb me in childhood because I always wondered if the Dad remembered to pick up some Earth food for them while he was there.

Oh I remember that one...you keep thinking it's a "dream" or an amnesia thingy but when the giant girl appears, it's down-right creepy.

"Is she Honey Boo Boo?" lol.

The stills from it look amazing. Can't wait till next New Year.
