Broadway Publicist: Sigourney Weaver's Bio Gaffe Is My Fault

Categories: Theater

As I wrote earlier today, Sigourney Weaver's Playbill bio for the hilarious Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike wrongly states that she won the Oscar for Aliens.

Well, don't blame Siggy.

The show's publicist, Rick Miramontez, from O & M Co., has issued a mea culpa.

First, some background. His firm is one of the top Broadway p.r. companies, and they're super nice, always giving me access and treating me like the star that I am. (Unlike some of the other firms, who--if they were a show--would make you want to leave at intermission.)

So with all due respect, I pass on his statement:

"In response to Michael Musto's reference to Ms. Weaver's misstated Oscar win for Aliens in her Playbill bio, it was MY mistake, NOT hers.

"And, for the record, I thought she had won Oscars for Gorillas in the Mist and Working Girl, too."

--Rick Miramontez, Spokesman, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike

Very cute. Give Rick a Publicist of the Year award for that one. Not just a nomination.
