Michelle Shocked: "God Hates Fags!"

Audio of the event has surfaced. I've listened to it, and I think it's clear enough that at one specific point she shifts from saying her own views to that of her reactionary co-religionists. The problem is that she bungles it by referring to "we" and "us" (to indicate that they share her faith), and figures we can tell when she's speaking for the uninformed by speaking like a hick. It's way too subtle for the moment, and I would have walked out, too; so I can understand everyone's outrage, but I don't think she's actually biased.

Today's New York Times:  "Michelle Shocked, the punk folk-singer, liberal activist and born-again  Christian, has drawn fire for an anti-gay tirade in San Francisco over the weekend, during which she said God hates homosexuals."

And he linked above to the queerty link in which Michelle is quoted as saying "You can go on twitter and say Michelle Shocked said God hates fags." Since she gave permission to do so, it's hardly misquoting her to say she said that.

And if she has any clarification, it's funny she hasn't bothered to put one out yet.

Bullshit, woofpug. The reports all say Michelle said "You can go on twitter and say Michelle Shocked said 'God hates f*gs". She also said gay marriage will lead to the downfall of civilization. No irresponsible reporting here, especially since Musto reached out to her for a response which never came, and so did everyone else!

According to those in attendance, she didn't say, "Gd Hates Fa**" She said, "You are going to leave here and tell people, 'Michelle Shocked said God hates faggots."

That sounds like she meant now you are hoping to say she said that, when she may not have.

While I dont' agree wiht any of the other hateful nonsense she said I do find it irresponsible of media to misquote here like you did Michael.

I guess Michelle got confused and for a minute there was channelling Michele Bachmann from CPAC.

So long Michelle and your hatred. I will miss listening to "Short, Sharp,Shocked" and I will miss your show in NYC in September.  I am truly SHORT, SHARP AND SHOCKED AND SO DISSAPOINTED IN YOU.

She totally ruined a New Year's Eve that my friends and I had planned for months. She put on a show in the East Village, then midway started ranting about how she found Jesus and it changed her life. In the goddamn heart of New York City! Without so much as a warning that "Performer will be spewing god-centric nonsense at some point in the program"! A number of people walked out of course, us included, and we tossed out the 2 early CDs of hers that we thought were worth keeping (fortunately her more recent music had become crappy, and that night we finally knew why). Apparently she's still at it and upped the stakes, clueless as usual that this time the entire country had already caught up with big-city values.

Michelle "I'm not a lesbian" Shocked went from Mormon to born again Christian--a sideways move if there ever was one.

Jesus wept.
