One of the integral people from the original A Chorus Line, Baayork Lee is doing Hello, Dolly! with an all-Asian cast, for the National Asian Artists Project

Says the release: "With a cast of 20 of some of NY's most talented Asian-American actors, this is an important step in opportunities for Asian-American actors to demonstrate that a great show only needs great people.

"Directed by Lee Roy Reams (director of the 1995 Broadway Carol Channing revival). April 29 & May 6"

Great! And now, if anyone wants to do an all-Caucasian version of Flower Drum Song, I'd have to say "Don't."

Or maybe just go ahead and surprise me.

CafeMuscato, It is being done in Washington DC with a cast of 16. Please check out

http://www.naaproject.org and you'll understand why this is important rather than knocking it.

Respectfully,

Richard Skipper

A cast of ... 20?  Carol used to have more than in the corps of waiters.  Dolly is one musical I don't see working as a chamber piece...

Will Harmonia Gardens become Shun Lee Palace?

@PhilNY Very funny (not). Speaking as a fellow Asian-American, born and bred here in (Sweet Home) Chicago...

@marie_yuen I'm sorry if I gave offense. It wasn't my intent. I made an offhand thoughtless comment. My apologies. I am a big fan of Baayork Lee. (I also think Shun Lee Palace would be an upgrade to Harmonia Gardens).

@PhilNY @marie_yuen Not 'if'', but 'did'. However, as it seems your apology is sincere and genuinely expressed, I'll accept it. Thanks for the sentiment and your newfound sensitivities.

@bmkaplan @mikeymusto Another cheap shot joke. But then I guess you would have flamed Pearl Bailey & Company when they appeared in their all-black cast of "Hello Dolly" back in the late 1960s...

Have at it...my university theater did "Fiddler" where half the villagers were black...I'm all for color-blind casting, but, big black women in babushkas tend to look like Aunt Jemima. (how'd she get to Anatevka?)
