Ledger Drug Tape in Bad Taste! Canceled Anyway!

Posted by Michael Musto at 10:45 AM, February 4, 2008

So a bunch of celebs came to dead Heath Ledger's rescue at the behest of a publicist and partly as a result of the pressure, ET dropped the video they had bought of the actor at an '06 drug party. And once again, the PR industry succeeds in keeping the truth from the public. Flacks were suddenly outraged over the "bad taste" involved in running such a video, but THEY'RE the class acts who accept large sums of money to obscure celebrity realities on a daily basis. Talk about bad taste! I'm not saying this was going to be a Pulitzer winning tape or even provide any concrete answers about Heath's sad demise, but it certainly promised to be newsworthy and less coy than the OFFICIAL reactions anyone's gotten about what happened. Let's not forget the maid who spoke to an Olsen twin way before calling 911 or the various people stepping forward to downplay any potential self destruction involved, as if a 28-year-old could have suddenly dropped from natural causes. Strangely, they're the same people lionizing Heath for having hated any form of b.s.! This tape couldn't have truly hurt anyone. The truth—even in sensationalized form—can only heal.

...and why is it ok to splash pixs of Amy Winehouse smoking crack all over the place, but not ok to show vid of Heath. I don't get it - why is okay for one celeb but not the other.

And while I am on a high horse - why do they want to keep it secret - wouldn't his death do a little bit of good if it served as a small example of what happens when you do drugs. (and yes - I am making the assumption that he overdosed, because that is what happened).

Ok, enough of that climbing down off my high horse.

To clarify - I'm with you Musto - show the tape!

Right on, MustoFan! I raise a glass (of juice) to you!

PS: Even if--as some claim--the video only shows Heath being uncomfortable at the party and saying he doesn't do pot anymore, then all the more reason to air it!

I think the problem with the tape in most people's minds was the way ET was sensationalizing it, implying that it showed Heath using drugs, when in fact, he wasn't. Maybe if their promo blurb had made it clear the tape was actually produced a couple years ago by paparazzi setting up a sting by faking friendship and a fake party, it might have had more value too.

Innuendo instead of facts... the downfall of journalism these days.

What about the way they air the footage of Britney smashing around in her car going in and out of Starbucks and public restrooms half dressed? Talk about bad taste.

PS: Britney has children as well and clearly suffers from mental illness.

Classy, hating on someone who hasn't been buried yet. You're no better than Ted Casablanca & Westboro Church.

Heath doesn't do drugs in the video but maybe it's because he finally realized they were taping him and thought better of it. But he definitely was doing drugs at the party, why else would he be there?
