Assassination Show Assassinated By Lawyers

Yazmany Arboleda's gallery show—examining how the public has "assassinated" the reputation of Mrs. Clinton—has been temporarily shuttered due to pending legal action, as is cryptically described on the show's website. Ditto for the same artist's corresponding show about the "assassination" of Barack Obama. When will all the assassinating end? Can't art shows whorishly trying to ensnare attention with sensationalized titles verging on irresponsibility be just roundly spanked, not shot down—I mean SHUT down?

Venson Thomas says:

I thank the poster who supplied the URLs for both online exhibits but cannot share her feeling of shock due their closing. Personally, I think both are a bit too much. If there is any “art” in either exhibition I and many others in this artist's dumbfounded audience will have to be informed exactly where the art is.

But what can you say? This is what comes when you get to live la vida loca in a fool’s paradise like New York City. Anyway . . .

My objection is that these exhibits help nothing. Most unfortunately, although America as always sets herself forth as our great and impartial mother – a facade she has borne for a long time -- tain’t so. All manner of infectious bias, malice and hatred are alive, thriving and breeding within the folds of her flab. Chauvinism, misogyny and racism thus are not dead and, to my mind, do not need to be encouraged – either knowingly or unwittingly.

I’ll give almost anything a play at least once so I viewed the Clinton exhibit online. Clod that I am I gained absolutely no sense of the art in it. At first, if there is such a term, I took it merely as a light lampooning of our former first lady and kept looking and waiting for the “big funny” I thought was to come. Yet the more I looked the more things appeared to have a vicious edge definitely meant to kill humor. The printed diatribe shown about Ms. Clinton’s taste in clothes was merely unfunny “man speech” in regard to a women seeking to lead and not follow.

Among the things to view at the Obama site was a large photo of Mr. Obama and his daughters. “NAPPYHEADED HO’S” is printed rather neatly right up on top. That ain’t art -- that’s Imus. As well there’s a wall hanging of a dark penis with scrotum that travels round most of the room. If that is figurative flattery or an homage to black men well – thanks but no thanks. There's more to a man than his genitals -- regardless of the size perceived . . . really.

I do not know the artist or why he or she is playing Nazi. I only know that the work presented is not only directly libelous but is also the kind of junk that a yet misogynistic, sexist, racist and homophobic nation does not need more of.

I just want to say that the artist is being really provocative and timing is everything.

I even defend the artists freedom of speech, because it did make me think about my perceptions about the two candidates.

Here is my take-

I suspect the exhibit is a fake. And it never really existed.

Here is what tipped me. The empty jar with "Promises" in the Obama exhibit looked CGI. Look at the perspective and the way it sits on the floor.

Then I searched the gallery at Wikipedia. Naomi Gates Gallery (594 West 22nd Street)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naomi_Gates_Gallery

That looked really familiar. Look at the SUV and the time of day from the artists website.

I say someone is having a virtual website exhibit! Any else care to comment?

What do you think?

Venson Thomas says:

Well, I saw the jar too and wondered but didn't have much time for analysis. If this is indeed an online "War of the Worlds" type hoax -- one point for the artist for fooling me. Ha, ha.

However, we still don't need the content online or anywhere. I'll shut up now.

Whether this is a hoax or not, I would say the media is currently assassinating Obama right now with the attacks on his parson, just as they assassinated Hillary last week with the atacks on Ferraro.
