Judy Garland is Still Alive! So is Liza!

It turns out the immortal Judy Garland never really croaked (but please don't tell that to the gays who rioted all those years ago at Stonewall, making history partly because they were pissed that Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz was gone. They'll feel used.) On June 28, Judy Garland in Concert will premiere in Boston, and as the release informs me, "This is not a tribute show. This is not a Garland lookalike. This is Judy herself returning to the stage for the first time in 40 years—singing the great American songbook with America's greatest orchestra, The Boston Pops.

"Cutting-edge technology unavailable just a few years ago has enabled NY-based production company Running Subway to present Judy's larger-than-life passion and personal story to 21st century audiences in what can only be described as the greatest Judy Garland concert ever."

This sounds absolutely amazing—but I bet she's still as drunk as a sailor on leave!

Girl Ditzi says:

She's actually fine-tuning the show in a rehearsal space in the Lincoln Center vacinity. Actually, it's a Duane Reade. The show looks like it's gonna be OFF THE HOOK!

So, what "Cutting-edge technology" would this happen to be?

How advanced has marionette-ing cadavers gotten?

The Late Tallulah Bankhead says:

I thought everyone knew that Judy was still alive and living in that mysterious rehabilitation clinic in Indiana with the zombies that used to be James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis and Sharon Tate.

E.J. Peaker says:

Is it a hologram or a virtual Judy? Never liked her singing that much, prefer Cher!

Tim says:

The menu at the clinic is the same every day for breakfast, lunch & dinner:

Shrimp Cocktail

French Onion Soup

Salad with Blue Cheese Dressing

Steak Well Done

Pie

Sanka

Now, THAT'S Classic Entertainment.

The Late Tallulah Bankhead says:

You're right Tim. That's also the daily menu at the Dead Theatrical Legend Retirement Home in Palo Alto, where I've resided since 1968. The dessert does vary a bit, though. Tonight we're having white cake with fluffy frosting because Mary Pickford's on the wagon and eating solid foods again. And dahling, Miss Judy loved her Sanka, preferably with a nice shot of Jack Daniels.

Trixie Blowhard says:

Yes Little Edie, I'm negotiating with Jujamcyn for my long-awaited return to Broadway in a revival of "Carrie: The Musical" with the equally dead Sal Mineo, Sylvester, Phil Hartman and in the title role, the effervescent Dana Plato.

Fredo says:

Little minds (what there is of it) like Michael Musto's can't ever see someone like Garland (arguably the greatest entertainer of the 20th Century) as anything else but fodder for lame drink jokes and drug jokes and fag-hag jokes. Old, tried and tired stuff as rotted and malodorous as Michael Musto's own teeth must be. Why doesn't this man have sex reassignment surgery and find a fag like himself to be the hag he so desperately acts out in his column? Girl, you are so 1984 it's not even funny.

Tallulah,
Why, I had white cake with fluffy frosting and Jack Daniels Sanka for Breakfast myself this very morning! You always have such lovely dietary suggestions! Mwah!

You are all so mean and nasty.....i'm embarrassed to be in the same club as most of you..that club being gay...I saw the show last night and am going again tonight.....the FACT is gentleman---even lame, bitter, say-anything-for-a-trite-headline mr. musto --- that she still remains one of the GREATEST talents ever to touch a stage...she sold out symphony hall..and it wasn't a room full of gay men, it was elderly couples who applauded when joe luft came onstage and talked about her historic concert on boston common...it was young children who's parents brought them to see the brilliant "Dorothy" in another phase of her talents...people who never had the chance to see her live.. can now at least have a glimpse as to what it may have been like. Also, you show me any of those creatures out there right now who can just stand there on a huge stage with no lights, no lipsyncing, nothing to cover her up except her talent-no one still compares...so get over yourself.

Eric Hemphill says:

Michael Musto tries very hard, but he is STILL believing the tabloid version of Judy Garland's life. I can't do much more than pity him. Who were the REAL druggie Divas? Billie Holiday, Janis Joplin, Bessie Smith...Garland looks clean and sober compared to these female train wrecks. For those that are innocently misinformed, and for those too stupid to assimilate information, Judy Garland was NOT an alcoholic. Autopsy findings proved that. No cirrhosis, no alcoholic liver disease, and in the words of the pathologist, "absolutely nothing to suggest alcoholism of any kind." Furthermore, Judy SHOWED UP far more often than she didn't. In 1967, she completed an 80-date concert tour with only three cancellations. Michael Musto probably calls in sick more frequently than that. Ignorance. Plain, unadulterated IGNORANCE. 34 films in 33 years? 120 concerts in the last two years of her life? People like Musto can no longer be discounted because of their ignorance. They need to be called out on it, and they need to know the truth.
