Fresh off winning the Voice's own award for "best party posing as an internet radio show," D List Radio has been D-railed and canceled by eastvillageradio.com. The rollicking show--hosted by Daniel Nardicio and Matthew Phillp--was a bouncy, opinionated mix of music, gossip, and mayhem. But it was just yanked, and insiders say that dread, old homophobia might have been part of the reason. I'll have more as this D-velops. (Wait, it already has. Turns out the show got axed after Nardicio made a crack that he wanted to have sex with the tech guy. See below. And by the way, yes, I'm the one who wrote up that item giving them the award.)

"After four years of doing our wildly popular syndicated weekly nightlife talk radio show, East Village Radio has canned DList Radio for apparently being 'inappropriate', 'offensive' and 'no good' after recording our November 8 show. We were featured in the Voice's Best of New York for 2008 and we recently broadcast interviews with celebrities like Lady Gaga, Alison Moyet, and Fred Schneider--many of whom EVR was proud enough to advertise on eastvillageradio.com's homepage.

Based on our top iTunes rating, we're not convinced we're as bad or unpopular as they say. In fact, based on the irrational, unprofessional way they seem to have approached making their decision to cancel the show, it seems clear that they are happy to censor DJs, confiscate recordings, and also seem happy to give credence to their own latent homophobia. We apologized profusely for saying the guy had a great ass and even offered to take that bit out of the show if only they would let us have and broadcast the November 8 show, but they still haven't. We then asked several times for them to return the recording of the November 8 show and they not only refused, they reacted by cancelling us.

Regardless, we're still doing the show live at Sugarland this Friday with Robynne Kaamil, Bianca del Rio, and DJ Aaron Elvis and we'll announce our exciting new venue in due course. Legal proceedings are also underway and all our shows are now available at www.dlistradio.com. Well, all except the Nov 8 show. So far."
