Obama Used To Back Gay Marriage!

It's true! The Windy City Times is reporting that when he ran for Illinois state Senate in 1996, Barack Obama went on the record saying he was unequivocally in favor of gay marriage. Not civil unions--actual wedlock!

A politician backtracking as he gains power? Nahhhh.

Hunter S. Thompson wrote about George McGovern : "He wouldn't stoop low enough to be President." Nobody could go as low as Nixon.
Barack is just bending his knees enough to clear the limbo bar into the White House. He'll walk tall again.
I just read that Bishop V.Gene Robinson will give the invocation at the opening event of the Inaugural Week activities.

I agree. Remember how Obama backed off on FISA and, after that raucus Republican Convention, said he would leave himself open to the possibility of "Drill, Baby, Drill."? He needed to renege partially on arctic drilling in order to win Colorado. He was clearing the bar. It is oily -- pun intended -- but that's demcratic politics. Obama's victory speech was all about inclusion and an America where gays have all the rights as the straights. That's who he is. But he probably fears the Right wingnuts would try to run his administration off the rails a la the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" fiasco at the start of the Clinton administration.

I believe in my heart that Obama will subtly, quietly move the bar -- without the Right even registering what is happening -- so that at the end of his administration we, as a country, will be immensely closer to the ideal of true and complete equality from sea to shining sea for all.

Marriage is a good thing. And gay marriage can be accepted is really a turning point for the life of LGBT. Actually, divorce may also happen to straight people. "As to love, we should cherish it and love the one you love.." it is what we all bisexual get after the discussion at the bisexual club of BiMingle.com . Anyway, making the law of marriage and divorce more complete is good thing for us LBGT. Thanks for giving us more right and making things easier for us.

GirlDitzi says:

Oh, this is news to me. But then again, nobody reads the Windy City Times. As for Obama's shying away from gays & lezzies- I would be fine with the benefits marriage brings, but full-on marriage would be the final nail on the coffin on gay culture.

JMcPherson says:

Newsflash -- Obama used the stupid gays who wrote checks out and will do absolutely nothing for them. Look at Clinton with the Defense of Marriage Act. Obama wants your money but you will be relegated to the bottom of his agenda. You should consider not tying yourselves BLINDLY to one political party and actually consider voting for a candidate for what they will actually do instead of the donkey imprinted on their rear.
