Andrea Martin's Saucy Comment Last Night!

One of the funniest people alive, Andrea Martin is the SCTV genius who went on to become a Tony award winner on Broadway and a familiar punim on the social scene.

And there she was last night, giving an award to theater queen extraordinaire Seth Rudetsky at the Shubert Theatre benefit for "Only Make Believe," an organization that puts on shows to cheer up sick children.

And she was cuter than Edith Prickley! In the midst of celebrating Seth's good works, Andrea noted, "Volunteerism is the new buzz word. Have you seen those PSAs with Blythe Danner and Gwyneth Paltrow?"

One person applauded.

"Well, Blythe may have given to charity," added Andrea, "but she also gives a lot to Dr. Sid Edelman on Park Avenue."

Miniscule pause. "She looks good!"

Andrea is indeed a genius. She stole Young Frankenstein even if she was basically doing Cloris, as it were.

....true I'm sure about any older actress ...I loooooooove andrea's work but am bummed to note her own obvious nosejob in this pic......why do ALL working actresses seem to fall one by one for some kinda facework???? why is there pressure for them all to look a certain way?

i'm not against all cosmetic surgeries....sometimes tiny increments mean alot to someone's self esteem.....but goddamn....why are they so de rigeur??? esp in ANY tentacle of the entertainment industry?
there is a thin line...a razor edge...of 'looking good' to aim for and if you overshoot that then yikes it's plastic-ville and ya can't go back to au natural but instead just try to stave off micheal jackson/wildenstein-ish-ness.

look...i like artistic artifice and makeup but why mess so hard with the meat???
especially if your talent outshines it?

??????

Jonster says:

Andrea was the natural successor to Gilda Radner. I LOVE her. She can play any character -- she finds that unique thing that makes the character stick around in your memory.

I used to love Blythe Danner, who I thought was the natural successor to Lee Remick. When Gwynnie grew up to be such a lah-di-da diva, it almost tarnished my image of Blythe, like how could she raise such a pretentious daughter.

If only Seth would get a nose job. And personality makeover.

She is amazing. She was the best part of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, even if she is culpable in giving Nia Vardalos a career.

Forgot all about her in MGFGW. Best thing in the movie.

Aunt Voula: [to Ian's parents] Now, you are family. Okay. All my life, I had a lump at the back of my neck, right here. Always, a lump. Then I started menopause and the lump got bigger from the "hormonees." It started to grow. So I go to the doctor, and he did the bio... the b... the... the bios... the... b... the "bobopsy." Inside the lump he found teeth and a spinal cord. Yes. Inside the lump was my twin.

One of Andrea's crowning achievements is the self-obsessed, neurotic Toronto yenta Jewess Libby Wolfson, host of her own talk show, and playwright of the feminist theatre disaster 'I'm Taking My Own Head And Screwing It On Right (And No Guy Is Gonna Tell Me That It Ain't)"
And how about the time she got blasted out of the shower in Club Paradise?
She's looking good, though those show biz people gotta soon realize a couple wrinkles is a show of strength. Funny as hell woman

Brian says:

As someone who has been around Ms. Danner a great deal over many years, in numerous casual meetings (sans makeup), I can tell you that she has the all the characteristic facial lines of a woman her age, and she is far removed from the group that has a plastic surgeon in their speed dial. Truth be told she has done what most have not the discipline to do. Live a healthy life style. Combine that with the blessing of uber-great genes inherited, and you end up with a lady who still pulls it off in her 6th decade of life.

@drtongue: That's one of my all-time favorite SCTV sketches. Joe Flaherty: "How I wish that I was in your league....but instead, I'm just a filthy sexist pig!"
