Obama's Encounter With a Pop Diva

President Obama loves to reference Lady Gaga to show how hip he is.

I'm hearing that the other day, after he made a speech about the importance of the hate crimes legislation he signed, the Prez was greeted by '80s singer and LGBT supporter Cyndi Lauper, who told him, "It's about time!"

In response, Obama told Cyndi he loved her music and, with a twinkle in his eye, he added, "Lady Gaga stole your act!"

I happen to think they're both complete originals.

I think Gaga stole Madonna's act more than Cyndi's, except she can actually sing.

Obama is right, Gaga stole Cyndi's offbeat style(with maybe a bit of Madge's masculine looks). Cyndi can outsing both Madge and Gaga, by a mile or better.

Hey Musto, if you really think hard about it, Cyndi is the consummate talent and the original. Madonna stole Cyndi's act, and the story continues...

Barkley says:

I don't Cyndi would like your reference to her as an "80s singer", she's much more than that. Do an interview with Kim Carnes!

Chelsea says:

Yeah, Musto, what's up with referring to Cyndi as an 80's singer. That line should of been reserved for Madonna(who never imo deserved to still be butchering our ears with her cat in heat voice up to now. Her desperate need for attention worked, much to the disdain of myself and others. Knowing your LGBT connections, you should know better than that. You're supposed to be a friend of Cyndi's??? Well, I think not. I predict Lady Gaga will be a blip on the radar in a few years.

Musto says:

Sorry, that was sloppy of me to write " '80s singer." I meant that she came of musical age in the '80s and is an enduring icon and fab singer. Please! No one worships at her throne more dutifully than I do.

donalda frump says:

It's about time that Cyndi got her fat ass out of her vast West Side rent controlled apartment which she pays 800 dollarsa a month for, instead of buying an apartment like anyone else of her wealth, to help stomulate the economy -- apart from the fact that she is screwing her landlord, what's the point of being killer stingy well past the point of psychosis?

Posted On: Wednesday, Nov. 4 2009 @ 5:22PM
Lisa says:

Sorry, Donalda. If you sit tight, I can get you a bowl of Cheerios without piss in it. I'll bring you an updated calendar, too, since it sounds like you're living in 2006.

Alex says:

I agree with President Obama. All of these young singers today are all copying Cyndi. From Lady Gaga to Katy Perry to Pink, and on and on. Of course Madonna was the first Cyndi wannabe. It just isn't fair that Cyndi has never gotten the credit she deserves. I say induct her in to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame already, and President Obama should have her declared a national treasure as well as the true queen of rock n roll.

David says:

THANK YOU for retracting that "80 singer" tag. Really, Michael Musto. A starring cameo in one of her video and that's what Lady Lauper gets? Puhleez!

Posted On: Thursday, Nov. 5 2009 @ 1:29AM
InconCyndi says:

Oh yes Michael Musto...glad that you retract your remarks...not only is Cyndi the most talented and creative of them all....a true New Yorker who has been the most consistent supporter of gay issues since I can remember....unlike Madonna who uses gay aesthetics and milks it for money making purposes...she only wants the gay dollar! and Lady Kaka?...well...she is following those same footsteps...

barfalatta says:

Cyndi has had fewer hits than Ricky Martin and has been bleeding audiences for money for decades longer -- does anyone really want to hear her squeak out that fucking "True Colors" anymore? When you can only get gay audiences to pay attention to you, you cannot claim extra credit as a "defender of gay rights" -- and whoever Lisa is, she is apparently not aware that Cyndi does indeed live in a rent-controlled West Side apartment for which she pays almost no rent, god bless her!

Posted On: Thursday, Nov. 5 2009 @ 8:36AM
Barkley says:

I agree, "True Colours" is played out. I wish she'd do "Maybe He'll Know" or "Calm Inside the Storm" or "One Track Mind" from the same album. Does she do "He's so Unusual/Yeah, Yeah" anymore? Those are so fun, also "I'll Kiss You".

Andres says:

It is true, partly bag lady gaga cyndi image, also as Madonna Hazo beginning.
Madonna really the picture occupies only gay for money, the kabala rejects gay, and that is what she practices.
Cyndi is pure talent, voice.

Chuckjones says:

I fell in love with Cyndi Lauper when I saw her first video (I'm dating myself) and have always been a huge fan of hers. I liked her much better than Madonna. For a short while, they were on the same level, so to speak, but Madonna's career took off. Yet, it's Lauper's songs that stay with me. "Time After Time"...ahhh! And, I just LOVE Lady Gaga! I think alternative female pop artists all owe a debt of gratitude to Cyndi. But copying her? By Gaga? That's absurd. I think Obama knows less about music than he does about keeping promises. (In other words, he seems to know nothing about music. When will he start walking the talk concerning Gay rights?)
