Sultana, The Queen of the Middle East Village

Categories: YouTube treasures

From Egypt by way of Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, and Mars, Sultana is a hip-swiveling bellydancer and lipsynch artist who believes Arabs get a bum rap.

This diva of the night has no use for ethnic stereotypes and even less for veils, preferring to flaunt her face for the world to see, albeit with lots of makeup for every occasion (even laundry) as she taunts convention with big boobs and a 100-watt smile.

Check out this video profile of the gal and see if you agree with her wisdoms like, "It's all in the cleavage, girls."

I'm sorry but that's justification for The Burqa right there.

Harvey Milk is wrong? Not everyone should come out?

And there she is in fuschia silk walking through the Village.

Ignore the haters and the xenophobes--you go ahead and do your thang! You are fabulous with your message and your conviction! You are a courageous, no matter what these fags say.

Ignore the haters and the bigoted xenophobes--just go ahead and do your thang. You are fabulous with your message and your conviction, no matter WHAT the bitter queens say.

Vagino Dickson says:

Fuchsia - tricky how it's spelled. She means that in certain situations, coming out would be inadvisable, tantamount to dropping dead. Even Harvey Milk ran away, in a manner of speaking, before he could come out.

Beautiful lady, deserves to be remembered for "It's all about the cleavage, girls."

If she was "courageous" she'd be strutting her stuff along the Beirut waterfront instead of E. 5th St.

VD - Maybe I should watch it again. I have to admit I like the sexy, sentimental-sounding supper club soundtrack. I think if he had also said, "I love the freedom here, and I'm not saying 'Don't come out,' I'm just saying 'Don't come out in the Middle East."

But beautiful? No. Sorry, that's a major stretch.

Ziado says:

Sultana is one of the very few, if any, drag queens that I know and have come across, that is very much liked and appreciated as well by straight men and conventional, mainstream people. It goes to say that this emotionally complex, multi-dimensional character, always speaking from the heart, transcends all stereotypes and stigmas and connects with us at a very humanistic level.
