Because it was one of those star-filled Vogue events where incredibly rich and famous people sported unbelievably pricey versions of punk attire to go with their dyed and processed hair, facial surgery, lipo, and mountains of credit cards.

In other words, it was the antithesis of everything punk represented, watering down the rage of the legendary rebels into something the pampered diva crowd could throw on for a smiley photo op, turning it into just the kind of commodified and depoliticized trendy crap the punks would have hurled at.

I don't usually swirl around fashion boutiques any more than I go baseball games, but when there's a movie tie-in, I'm there.

And I must say the clothes that Miuccia Prada designed for The Great Gatsby--on display at the 575 Broadway store--are fully worth crawling down that store's scary staircase to see.

I normally don't care much for fashion and/or movie tie-ins, but these Brooks Brothers clothes--inspired by the Catherine Martin-designed duds for the upcoming Great Gatsby film--are so swanky they could bring on a whole new jazz age. No roaring 20s revival would look quite dapper enough without them. Oh, Brothers!

She filed for bankruptcy last year, then her fashion show was called off, but suddenly it was on again, and thank god for that because it brought levity and splash back to Fashion Week.

What a production!

First, various props were set up on pink mats up and down the runway--everything from sunglasses to champagne bottles and beyond--as we wondered just what kind of B.J.-palooza was in store.

Then colorfully dressed young models strutted out in zany wigs, faux talking on cell phones and bopping around, followed by aerobics drill sargeant Betsey Johnson herself, who promptly put them through the paces with a gleeful elan.

I got so excited! All I have to do is get six haircuts and my seventh one will be free!

This is sort of like those coupons that say, "Ten percent off anything you purchase over $10,000."

Not exactly practical, and yet I'm considering it. After all, I need seven haircuts.

Says Shilling, "On the beaches of Tel Aviv, they play a game called Matkot, with bat and ball." So he showed this playful hat at Tel Aviv Fashion Week.

Yesterday, I had a chi-chi lunch at Barney's with hat designer David Shilling, who told me he makes the most expensive hats in the world, and each one is a unique piece.

What's more, the male models who sport them happen to be works of art unto themselves.
