Madonna's H&M Collection: Yawn

Posted by Jessie Pascoe at 6:40 PM, March 23, 2007

Curious about Madonna's new H&M collection, we hiked over to their Soho store. There a neutral palette of '40s tops and skirts, bodysuits (?!?), kimono-inspired dresses, and modish pants and trench coats, greeted us, then made us yawn. After viewing the collection's commercial, we thought the threads would be thrilling and different. The campaign suggests that a person's look will be transformed into a vision even Madge approves of. Yet, the dull clothes were more Banana Republic than designs created by the envelope-pushing Queen of Pop.

We tried on a few selectons. However, the black skinny pants produced the same look of horror all drainpipes do for us. And the mulberry silk kimono-style dress proved too unstructured; our winter shape demands tougher tailoring.

On our way out, we asked a salesperson how 'M' sold on its first day. She said more people tried on than purchased, but added that the black jumper ($39.99) and khaki rayon dress ($59.99) did well. We can't imagine why the matte ivory polyster/rayon bodysuit wasn't a bestseller.

Hello,I am sorry you donlt have an eye for classic pieces every women needs in her wardrobe, nor a body that will fit them. Yes there were a few more daring pieces, but those were reaching the kind of women who to her, a plain white blouse just wouldn't do. Cheer up ladies, it is just a lot of great inexpensive clothes, no one was expecting the second coming.

H&M, i know is cheap clothes. But i dont know what Madonna was thinking when she agreed to create with them. It is the most cheapest clothes ive seen in my life. Specially I was going for the $200 sequins dress. It is horrendous!!!
The pants and glasses with M logo are so tacky i can imagine every little wanna-be-trensetter wearing this in NYC.
YUK YUK!

i think everyone should leave madonna alone, as a member of staff workin for one of the larger H&Ms in the UK... i can tell u that the range has had alot of interest. people should not expect the unexpected. we did not think that there would be huge queues outside the doors on the launch day. however we are pleased with the continued interest and new customer that the pop icon has brought into our store. her collection definitely boosted sales. so back off!!!!

Madonna is Fab and i'm barelly wearing designer clothing. I think these clothes look okay. By the way I have seen these items being put on a hangers, I thought that was a the sign for takeoff. This kind of promotion, what happened to the board meetings? you need to hint H&M. Enough about laughter doing it her way makes all the difference.

I went to H&M in Krakow Poland yesterday - and I was kind of surprised that they still had Madonna three months after the collection was launched. I got a cream skirt - it was on sale. I paid like Polish equivalent of 17 bucks for it, when the original price was three times as much
