The folks at Brownstoner have just launched a new blog, Brooklyn Flea, documenting the process of opening their flea market, which is scheduled for April 7. This is also an opportunity for y'all to chime in with your opinions. We are excited to hear that the space, in the Bishop Loughlin schoolyard on Lafayette Avenue is big—40,000 square-feet. We are slightly wary of flea markets that give a lot of space to local craft-type stuff. Maybe it's just us, but we want vintage furniture more than anything else. But there should be room for everyone here, and we are rooting for a flea market renaissance!
Everyone's favorite gay father figure is coming back to Bravo this week. Set your DVRs for Bravo on September 6th, at 10PM if you're a Tim Gunn fan. He and diesel-armed Veronica Webb will be helping "fashion-challenged" ladies find their personal style on Tim Gunn's Guide to Style. Basically, it's a makeover show that will probably feel like watching someone go to therapy (What Not to Wear, anyone?), and personally, I can watch endless hours of that kind of shit.
Gunn's PR people sent over some "matierials" on the show, and since my ADD is particularly challenging today, I couldn't make it through any actual paragraphs, but there was a list of "basic pieces" that Tim says every woman should do well. Do you pass the test?
Basic black dress, Trench coat, Classic dress pants, Skirt, Blazer, Classic white shirt, Day dress, Cashmere sweater, Jeans, Sweatsuit alternative. Bonus: One indulgent trendy item.
We're batting about 5/11, and that's being generous... Also, sweatsuit alternative?
We'll confess to shopping under the influence. Those fabulous three-inch heel boots wouldn't be in our closet if we did have that extra mimosa at brunch. And we're tickled that the hat shop next to McSorley's holds such late hours.
So we're pleased as punch that this Saturday Brooklyn Collective's Valentine Day soiree kicks off with an open bar reception. Drinks at Lido and then the jewelry of Species by the Thousand, Lewis Williams, and Jess Yam, and the threads of Tessa Phillips, Magdalena Marcenaro, and more is enough for Threadster to assume being in REM. We might have to pinch ourselves or just buy those hand-painted canvas skull shoes.

February 4 should be circled on everyone's calendar. It is the official launch date for Proenza Schouler's Go International collection for Target. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette notes:
The spring daywear and sportswear line, designed by award-winning duo Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollogh [sic], includes colorful skirts, tops, jackets, dresses, pants, shorts, swimwear and outerwear. Prices range from $12.99 for tissue tanks in five colors to $139.99 for a cropped suede jacket in light khaki.
However for those that can't wait, Opening Ceremony will showcase these threads two days earlier. According to the Times:
Mr. McCollough and his design partner, Lazaro Hernandez, are so enamored with their Target collection that for four days, beginning Feb. 2, they plan to transform the Opening Ceremony store in SoHo into a pop-up Proenza Schouler for Target boutique.
To catch glimpses of the line check out this Target commercial. We just wonder if the surfboard's included.
