Vendy Award Finalists Announced

It's that time again. On Friday, The Street Vendor Project announced the four finalists for the Vendy Awards. This year, the battled ends us being between Jackson Heights against Soho/West Village.

And the finalists are:

From Queens, Pieded Cano, better known as "The Sainted Arepa Lady," for her Colombian-style corn arepas, and Samiul Noor Haque of Sammy's Halal.

And from Manhattan, Calexico, a new, hip Tex-Mex cart in Soho, run by three brothers from the California border town, Calexico, and Thiru Kumar, a/k/a "The Dosa Man." Kumar was a finalist last year.

The judges: Mimi Sheraton, former N.Y. Times food critic, Lauren Spirer, food critic at Gothamist, and Jennifer Berg, director of the
food studies program at NYU.

The winner will be decided in a cook-off on October 22nd. Ticket info, etc. here.
