A New Cuisine Comes to the Bronx

Posted by Nina Lalli at 1:12 PM, October 5, 2007

Just when you were getting bored of the same old ethnic foods, there's a new cuisine in town, or at least, there's a new restaurant, and it seems to be the only spot for Garifunan food. Garifuna are Coastal Caribbeans of African and Native American descent, and Garifuna Star is making some pretty delicious sounding food, like a curry-esque soup and a fufu-esque plantain dish. You can thank Chowhound for this find.

Would it be that difficult to get the off the internet once in a while? Nina and do some work (i.e. get your ass up to the Bronx and see for yourself.) While it is nice you're not pimping tv shows this time, it's back to the old do-nothing standby of... Chowhound (North Korea of the internet) said. You live in Brooklyn and can't find one thing besides Trindiad Ali to write about if it doesn't show up as a press release? Regardless of what the Voice pays you, have some fucking pride as a writer for a change and try to do something even half-original. You might even enjoy it. Does anybody actually read this shit and say "Nice work, Nina!" or rather do they thank you for being such a good little promoter?

It seems that Ms. Lalli does, in fact, go to the Bronx, and in the middle of the night, even. I just finished reading her story about time with a fishmonger at the New Fulton Fish Market and I will certainly say, "Nice work, Nina!"
