Keeping it Classy: Inaugural Lunch to Feature Korbel

korbel.jpg

After President-Elect Obama is sworn in, his new administration will be toasted at a traditional luncheon given by the JCCIC (deep breath: the Joint Congressional Committee for Inaugural Ceremonies).

What will Obama's first meal as President be like?

First Course:
Seafood stew
Wine pairing: Duckhorn Vineyards 2007 Sauvignon Blanc

Second Course:
A "brace of American birds" [new reality show? anyone?] with sour cherry chutney and molasses sweet potatoes
Wine pairing: Goldeneye 2005 Pinot Noir

Third Course:
Apple cinnamon sponge cake with sweet cream glacé
Wine pairing: Korbel "Special Inaugural Cuvée

Really? Korbel? Harry Reid wouldn't spring for, say, Veuve Clicquot? And if they needed to keep all the wines American-made, I'd go with Sonoma County's Iron Horse, which makes delicious sparkling wines. Korbel is for 1am on New Year's Eve, when you don't care what you're drinking anymore.

If you're really into this, you can go here, download the recipes, and have your own Inaugural luncheon at home.
