Spotted Dick for Frost/Nixon

In a sense, this weekend's Oscars are no different than last weekend's Valentine's Day--a convenient excuse for restaurants and bars to push themed plates and drinks (or teach us to make our own) to combat these lovely economic times we live in. We already mentioned/questioned the "Slumdog Millionaire cocktail," but there are more (too) clever edible and drinkable Oscar options.

Epicurious has menus based on each of the Best Picture nominees. We've got to give it to them for the Spotted Dick for Frost/Nixon that works both ways. It's a British dish for a film about a British journalist, and, let's face it, Nixon was a spotty Dick.

Eleni's (75 9th Avenue) in Chelsea Market is making and selling cookies and cupcakes with the faces of each of the ten Best Actor and Best Actress nominees. At $59.50 for 16 cookies, the treats don't come cheap.

Bobby Flay hypes a Sparkling Pear Prosecco cocktail because apparently for the Oscars you want to serve a "cocktail that is fun and whimsical but at the same time economical" (at least this year).

If you want a more highly themed, less economical cocktail, restaurants around the city have provided movie-themed cocktails, like the "Fountain of Youth" from BLT Steak that features Acai Liquer and POM Wonderful juice.
