Strange Snacks of the World -- Sel Roti

Sel Roti at Mustang Thakali Kitchen

Sel roti is a bread beloved of Nepalis, featured during their Festival of Lights, but also eaten as an everyday snack. It's made with rice flour and resembles an anorexic Krispy Kreme. Sometimes banana is added to amp up the sweetness, but the version served at Mustang Thakali Kitchen in Jackson Heights is only slightly sweet, and fit for eating with savory curries. A little dab of daikon pickle comes on the side. 74-14 37th Avenue, Jackson Heights, Queens, 718-898-5088
