If you're planning to join the throngs of green-clad revelers later on today - provided you haven't already - we don't need to tell you what top Irish pubs will be packed.

But if you prefer hosting your own St. Patrick's Day shindig, may we suggest an appropriate libation or two?

Cocktail wunderkind David Wondrich suggests foregoing the ceremonial greenifying of a drink using crème de menthe or green Chartreuse and instead Irishing up a classic Manhattan recipe. Incorporate Irish whiskey, Italian vermouth and a dash of orange bitters for a decidedly not-green-hued Emerald.

Junior Merino, the self-proclaimed Liquid Chef, shakes up a Pot O' Gold using G'Vine gin (the grape-based gin), Midori, fresh lime juice, pineapple juice, simple syrup and basil leaves. Garnish with a basil leaf and (lucky!) gooseberry coins.

Or just keep things simple with a Black Velvet: Guinness. Champagne. Need we say more?
