Open & Closed--Say Hello to Bklyn Larder; Goodbye to Mr. Jones

This week, we checked out the newly opened Bklyn Larder, the prepared foods offshoot of Franny's, and found that, while the restaurant "is a destination [that] people travel from other boroughs to experience, [the] Bklyn Larder isn't, really... However, as a neighborhood sandwich spot, Bklyn Larder is fantastic."

Astoria gets a new upscale steakhouse in the form of Renaissance this weekend. Yvan Lemoine, the pastry chef from the now shuttered Fleur de Sel and a bar chef who has designed cocktails for Gilt and Milos, is the mastermind behind the classic supper club. Expect dry-aged steaks, ginormous double-cut chops, whole crown racks of lamb, and tall-ass seafood towers.

Danny Omari, of the recently opened Food Fight on MacDougal Street, has launched Rino Ceronte across the street, and will add a hot-dog joint next door called SuperDog shortly. The sandwich shop specializes in customized pressed-to-order white and whole-wheat homemade flatbread wraps. SuperDog will have a similar customized-dog concept.

Ivan Garcia, formerly of Mercadito (and, before that, Barrio Chino) has opened Mesa Coyoacan in the former Pampa Grill space as an homage to traditional Mexican. The menu is inspired by Garcia's grandmother's recipes, featuring three-for-$9 tacos of homemade tortilla filled with Berkshire pork or grass-fed beef.

After less than a year of being open, the East Village yakitori joint Mr. Jones has shuttered. The boite was perhaps doomed after Restaurant Girl deemed it "more sex than food." But, then again, RG's razor-sharp observations probably didn't have much sway in the matter.

Tempo, a mainstay of Mediterranean fare and go-to for bar mitzvahs and weddings in Park Slope, has closed its doors. Tempo Presto next door, which is served up a cheaper version of the menu, gave up the ghost earlier this year.
