Weekend Special--Sheepshead Bay by Night
Waiting for the night fishing boats to return to Sheepshead Bay,
Thursday, 11 pm. Cafe crawlers who've been sitting at outdoor tables in the mild evening are packing up and getting ready to go home along the concrete bathtub that is Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. Party boats disgorge tourists and graduation celebrants back into their white buses. Cars of wives line up to pick up their husbands from the fishing boats, which have returned from the vicinity of Sandy Hook, New Jersey bearing flounder, croaker, and sea bass. The gulls flap overhead hoping for a few discarded fish scraps. Tired captains secure their boats until, at 6 am, the boats go out again.
