Big Apple Barbecue Block Party
Madison Square Park
June 13 & 14
The Seventh Annual Snapple Big Apple Barbecue Block Party returns to Madison Square Park this weekend. This celebration of all things smoked and grilled gives us city folk the opportunity to taste award-winning recipes form the country's top pitmasters, from the sauciest pork ribs to the spiciest barbecued chicken. Admission is free and plates are $8 each, but some hundred thousand people showed up last year, so best to get there bright and early--the event starts at 11 am both Saturday and Sunday.
NYC Food Film Festival
The third annual NYC Food Film Festival is like a party in your mouth... for your eyes! June 13th marks opening night and films will run all week. Features include Stanley Tucci's Big Night, as well as a documentary on fungi. Expect a great selection of shorts, such as Celeriac,
A nail-biting super-short thriller about a stalk of celery and a knife; and Food Cops, starring a hamburger and a hot dog, who hunt for a criminal on the streets of New York. Bring two cans of food with you to benefit Food Bank for New York City.
Summer Crab Boil
Every Tuesday until Labor Day
If you missed the premiere last week, don't worry: you have 12 more Tuesdays to attend Back Forty's Summer Crab Boil. For the second summer in a row, Peter Hoffman's temple of local, seasonal comfort food is hosting a weekly crab boil with all the fixin's. At $40 per person, tables fill up fast so you should book ahead, up to six days in advance.
