Cafe Boulud & The Surrey Hotel Have Several Surprises In Store (In Bed)
Rendering of the bar at The Surrey Hotel
Both the new bar and private dining rooms in the Surrey Hotel, set to reopen this October after a $60+ million renovation, will be serviced by a refurbished Cafe Boulud next door. Guests will also be able to order "Boulud in Bed" for room service, including a DIY bar set, complete with mixers and garnishes to make specific drinks from the bar's cocktail menu or their own concoctions. The in-room mini bar will stock 350ml bottles instead of dinky airplane-size ones.
The bar itself, which will feature deco-style quilted private booths inspired by the designs of Coco Chanel, will serve smaller versions of the dishes on Cafe Boulud's menu.
"If we're doing lamb three ways in the Cafe, then we might do lamb cheeks in the bar," executive chef Gavin Kaysen told Fork in the Road. "We're also talking about doing a traditional Chinese section of the (Cafe) menu. We're going to visit Morimoto... he's gonna show us how to do his Peking duck."
Two adjoining private dining rooms at the back of the bar will be able to accommodate up to 34 people. A private English garden on the 17th floor open to guests only will serve light lunches by Cafe Boulud, as well as a "lemonade menu."
