Gothamist has published a follow-up to yesterday's news that three New Jersey residents have filed a lawsuit to force hot dog companies -- including Nathan's Famous and Hebrew National -- to put warning labels on their product packaging. The lawsuit, filed on behalf of the plaintiffs by a vegan advocacy group called the Cancer Project, contends that hot dogs contain carcinogens, and should bear labels similar to those on cigarette packs. Somewhat unsurprisingly, a rep for the hot dog industry dismissed the Cancer Project, telling Gothamist that "their solution to every possible illness is vegetarianism. Their objective is to end meat consumption, period."
