And They're Off! Fall Restaurant Previews Are Out of the Gate

Both New York magazine and Metromix have unleashed their Fall restaurant previews today, lending a bit of autumnal snap to the dead heat of August. Names that everyone's smacking their lips over include Momofuku Midtown, which will be located in the old Town space; the Breslin, April Bloomfield's new place at the Ace Hotel; A Voce Columbus, the uptown sibling to the celebrated A Voce Madison; Fatty 'Cue, Zak Pelaccio's Williamsburg Asian-inflected barbecue joint; SD26, the new incarnation of the legendary San Domenico; and, of course, a few of the 3,841 outposts of the ever-mushrooming Michael 'Bao' Huynh's empire. Of course, Huynh isn't without a challenger for pan-Asian chain supremacy: when Xie Xie's Angelo Sosa opens up the second location of his Asian sandwich shop across the street from the St. Marks outpost of Baoguette next month, expect the pickled daikon to fly.

Aside from sandwich turf wars, what else can we expect? Italian, lots of it, whether it comes in the form of pizza (Pulino's, second locations of Motorino and Lucali) or fine-dining (Danny Meyer's Maialino, SD26, A Voce Columbus). Or in gutbomb form, courtesy of the Artichoke pizza guys: they're opening Led Zeppole, which, true to its name, will churn out funnel cakes, fried Oreos, fried ice cream, and just about anything else that can be stuck in a deep-fryer on Mulberry Street.
