Incredibly Cheap Eats: Gyro King in Kensington, Brooklyn

gyro.jpg
Gyro King popped up about nine months ago in the middle of the Bangladeshi part of Kensington, Brooklyn. Along with the lamb gyro cut from a rotating spit, there's also chicken shawarma, various salads, and kabobs like chicken tikka.

But Fork in the Road has had gyro on the brain ever since reading the meatstuff's fascinating genesis story in the Times. So the gyro it was, and for $4, it's a tasty deal. An impressive pile of the tender, caramelized lamb bits, hot peppers, salad, onions, white sauce, and hot sauce all are piled on a chewy-squishy pita. True, you can get essentially the same sandwich at the same price at a street cart, but this one is of very generous proportions--plus, it comes with a free soda, and there's seating available.

It's unclear if this Gyro King is related to the one at Foster and Coney Island Avenues.
